Default Eric Clapton & Band (Includes Billy Preston)--Super Live Version Of "River Of Tears"

Eric Clapton and band in fantastic form--with Billy Preston on Hammond organ--live at the Staples Center, August 2001 (a venue now known as the Crypto dot com Arena, of course), performing the remarkable Eric Clapton-Simon Climie composition River Of Tears, originally released on Clapton's 1998 studio album Pilgrim.

Personnel:

Eric Clapton – guitar, lead vocals
Andy Fairweather-Low – guitar, backing vocals
Billy Preston – Hammond organ, backing vocals
David Sancious – keyboards, backing vocals
Nathan East – bass guitar, backing vocals
Steve Gadd – drums

I saw them within a week or so of your show, at the Key Arena (Now Climate Pledge Arena, of course.) It was supposedly a retirement tour, except he never retired. Amazing how many great songs they played that night.

The opener was some hot shot named Derek Trucks...

That would have been August 4, 2001, at the Key Arena. At the time, Clapton said that that 2001 "Reptile World Tour" (February 3 to December 15, 2001) would be his last major world tour. Of course, he went on another major world tour in 2011 to support his "Clapton" album.
