Octacore strings?!

I'd never heard of them till the recent resurrected thread from, was it 2012? Anyway, they sounded pretty intriguing...but they don't seem to have made much of a splash with too many people in a number of years. Must be a reason?

You won't go into many music stores and see Octacore strings. They aren't widely marketed or distributed. But, I've known of a couple players that really like them. My experience with them was neutral: not the best or worst I've used.

On a side note, I've heard before that Mapes actually makes some of the brand name strings we see in the stores.

I just ordered a set. I’ll put it on something and see how they do.

I was given a set about 10 years ago. Put them on a sapele/sitka dread. They were "OK"
I did not purchase any.
