For Sale: Julian Gaffney - Modified Dread * SOLD (pending pmt)*

I hate to let this one go, truly. But I've had a build commissioned for years and its time to generate some cash. The only partial trade I may be interested in would be a Telecaster. Grosh, Suhr, Fender custom/master, etc... Not interested in true vintage or other guitars.

This is Julian's build number 11. It is a cannon of a Modified Dread (MD) with stunning Cocobolo, some of (if not) the finest Julian has ever seen. The Engelmann top is opening up beautifully with rich harmonics and strong fundamentals alike. This has a fancy rosette and simple elegant ebony binding, bridge, fingerboard and headstock overlay. The backstrap is Cocobolo as well. Strap pins exactingly added per Julian's instructions. Cutaway and Hoffee Hardshell case included.

Condition is near mint. I have played it so there may be some VERY subtle sign of that just south of the treble strings. The guitar has been pampered, humidified and generally kept out of harm's way.

I have played fingerstyle, with pick both strumming and running melody lines. It excels swiftly at both. Very responsive as you would expect from one of Smogyi's apprentices.

This guitar would now sell for approximately $13k from Julian. There is not a lot out there used and for good reason. I will make it available for local audition, or carefully pack and ship via insured means. I have appropriate boxes and packaging to do this well.

Asking $9000, REDUCED TO $8500 for AGF Members. Available at full price on Reverb. Tele trade not withstanding. That's >35% less than new, and you could have a guitar to end conversations in a few days. Many of his guitars are now selling near $20k and as word travels, his prices will follow.

Thank you. I couldn’t agree more. The Coco IS SPECTACULAR! I seem to recall that it was given to Julian by Ervin as he was nearing the end of his apprenticeship. I have never played this guitar and thought “if only it was BRW, MRW, ABW, etc... this Coco - as built by Julian - stands proudly on its own and says..”fight me.”

The only Doerr I currently possess is a Trinity which is a small bodied guitar in the 00-000 ranges and maple. Not exactly apples to apples. My Doerr build I won’t see till summer.

Selling this is a huge gamble for me but post-divorce financial realities do not allow for the indulgence I once enjoyed. This is purely a financial move, it’s a wonderful guitar that will easily hold its own in any collection, if not establish a new reference point. It is easily, a singular lifetime guitar for most people.
