That looks to be an amazing guitar.

That top! Oh my--it's stunning!

And of course the back and sides are fantastic as well--really looking forward to seeing this one finished!

Thanks Nemoman, we were pleased to get both these sets of wood. Just didn't imagine they would end up on the same instrument. Doubles the pleasure in one swoop.

Well, it’s time to do some updating on Dave’s guitar. We’ve been working on the trim. Dave chose some Ebony to really set off the cool woods.

Here’s the end wedge being clamped in with band clamps.

And the the reveal:

Taping the purfling around the back.

And starting the binding on top. You can see the Teflon spacer in the purfling where some shell will go later.

Thanks for watching.

Looking great guy's, I'm really happy we decided on w/b/w purfling lines. It really provides a nice contrast with the Madi and Sinker. Can't wait to see more.

Finishing up the binding photos.

Getting the last miters all cleaned up.

Scraping the binding flush

And a shot to show off the color of the paua against the redwood.

Thanks for watching!

Laying out the neck.

The Hall of Clamps.

Gluing “ears” on to the peghead.

A wild rosewood veneer.

Taking shape.

More soon.

Thanks Nemoman. Seeing the peghead overlay at Steve's shop I couldn't believe what a great match it was. Finding it was a major determining factor in choosing a solid peghead vs a slotted peghead. I couldn't be more pleased with how it looks.

Like Dave said, thanks Nemoman! It was a bit of serendipity having that piece lying around. It came from a "useless" shard of rosewood, that when resawn and bookmatched yielded an attractive chevron pattern. We had it sitting around the shop for a couple of years, and then Dave walked in. Bam! It's rewarding when you see stars in someone's eyes!

And then Dave concocted a little surprise for the rear plate. Both sides will have something to look at, which will be fun.

Thanks guys,

Steve

Thank you Geoff! I think both Dave and ourselves get a chuckle out of the direction of this build. It started out so differently, but here we are, using the sets you see. Mind you, we're happy as clams the direction this is taking. Happier, actually, as clams can't play guitar very well.

Steve
