I've been at the mandolin for several years now and enjoy it enough that I thought I would try something really different. Boy does it come a little slower, but still LOADS of fun!

Custom Ovation Mandocello

This will give an idea of the relative size of it, standing between a mandolin and a guitar in the back. GAS-related trivia: Of all the instruments in this picture, the only one I still have is the mandocello.

This is my MM-68-LTD Ovation mando.

And this is the mando with its matching cousin the Elite 1768-LTD standing in front of the Ovation Factory in Connecticut.

Yep, I can fret six strings with two fingertips (maybe all 8...)

Nice

I do have an Eastman 505 that does not get played much, but it is an awesome instrument that plays and sounds like it cost hundreds more.

Yes, I have had a Gibson A-1 for about 10 years. When you get the inspiration, its a nice alternative to guitar. This year I picked up a used Gibson Jam Master F at a very good price. Having lots of fun with it, too.

Some of my mandolins --

My oldest: 1897 Howe-Orme
My priciest: Collings MF5 (although my 1917 Gibson F-4 may actually be worth more now)
My fanciest: 1902 Martin Style 5 bowlback
My plainest: Mid-Missouri all-mahogany
My cheapest: Kentucky 180
My biggest: Trillium octave mandolin
My loudest: circa 1935 Regal/Dobro
My favorite: Sobell carved-back

I have a Tenada mandolin I picked up cheap. Good for playing around with. I have it tuned G-C-E-A like a uke.

Patchmcg, very cool collection of Ovations (in front of the factory!)

I especially like the "old" style 12 string up front, it reminds me of a Legend I had back in the late 70's/early 80's. I wish they would go back to that simpler design.

I have a black Johnson (all solid) mandolin. It's definitely a budget instrument, but it's filling my mandolin craving nicely. I played violin for about 10 years so the transition to a mandolin was incredibly easy considering its a violin with frets.

Here's a nice starter for someone. It's used but in OK shape.

Yep, starter mandolins don't come any better than that.

I have two, an Epi "A" and a JBovier "F". I go back and forth between guitar and mando, sometimes in the same night. I enjoy the difference. Keeps me from getting bored. Mando seems to irritate the wife a little more. You don't realize how piercing those high notes are projected when you are sitting behind it!

I have three mandolins: 1917 Gbson A-3, 1949 Gibson F-12 Artist Model and a 1964 Martin Model A. There are good alternative to a guitar when you want a change. I also play banjo but I seldom talk about it here.......
