The HD-28V is still in production. It is one if he most popular Martin models. The D-28 Marquis (along with the other “golden era” models) was discontinued after 2016. I believe I may have bought one of the last handful of D-28 Marquis that were made in 2016. And it’s a monster.

Of Martin's current offering of production neck profiles, the Modified V is my favorite. I do wonder if I'd prefer a beefier, rounder neck like the Full Thickness or a mid-century Martin, but I do know the new MLO causes my hand to cramp like crazy. Which is too bad now that Martin is using One Neck to Rule Them All. Good for the Low Pro fans out there though!

OP here - thanks to all who replied. Sounds like people are divided on this, so I'm thinking my lack of enthusiasm for this neck shape is pretty much normal. Having said that, since I already own the guitar I'll give it some more time, perhaps the end of summer. If I'm still not bonding with it, I'll sell it and move on - perhaps try a Guild Bluegrass Jamboree for a while?

Big fan of Martin, Collings Mod-V 1-3/4 necks for everything except maybe jazz-style comping up & down the neck, which I don't do very much of. Bluegrass-style ryhthm & lead, fingerstyle - V is the bomb.

Bought a D-18V last year, lovely guitar, but the modified V neck puts my fretting hand to sleep. Decided to put it up for sale after this weekend and move on. Maybe to a newer version with the low oval / performing artist taper. |

The v neck on my om28v is the perfect neck for me. I have played the newer same spec om28 with the modified oval and I am glad I have mine. When I pull out me D18GE it feels huge . If you play barre chords often or have smalller hands I can see it being a challenge for some. I also had a hd28v That was favorite V-neck at one time so there is a huge variance between martin V-neck's. The GE is a hand full for sure, probably the chunkiest and deepest v I have played but I it works for me. I can see why others might feel different. Bottom line do not instantly not try out a guitar because it's a v neck martin as they are not all the same.

One of my favourite guitars ever is the Martin ooo18 E/C model, but alas i had to sell mine because of the V neck, they just cause me too much grief in my fretting hand.

I have played many really good sounding Martins with a V-neck. Can't get through more than one or two songs before I get searing pain in my left thumb.

I liked the EC neck shape, but ended up selling it because I didn't care for the gloss finish. I greatly prefer satin. Yep, that's how ridiculously picky I am these days. I drive myself crazy some days.

I had a beautiful Martin D-28 Clarence White Edition several years back. I loved that cannon, but the V neck stressed my left wrist.
Love faded as I played it less and less, till finally it was traded away. I replaced it last year with an Eastman E20D. A suitable replacement, without the wrist pain, at a fraction of the price of the CW.
