Default Need opinion on 12-string acoustics

Hi.
I am looking to buy an 12-string acoustic (below 1000 dollars). And it should be with electronics.
For now i am looking at the - Seagull Coastline S12 Cedar QI. Any opinions on that guitar, and maybe you can recommend something else. Thanks.

Yamaha CPX700IIS-12 has a solid sitka top, laminate mahogany b/s, a relatively narrow neck, clear pick guard, A.R.T. pickup which sounds way more natural than any under saddle piezo, and also comes with a soundhole plug to further fight feedback on stage. I miss mine dearly, I just never played it. I had mine strung with 12s and the tuned in standard E tuning. No problems with the neck ever.

Guild, IMHO, is best when it comes to 12 string acoustic guitars.
You can pick up a US-made Guild JF30-12 w/Fishman AGX pickup for about a grand.

Last shopping trip a friend picked up a cheap Taylor - don't remember exact price, but well under $1,000. He has 12 or 13 fine guitars and got this Taylor for gigs. He seems to like it quite a bit.

I was going to suggest this, then saw this one in AGF classifieds.

I have one of these and can't recommend them enough.

And they are about HALF of your budget

My first 12 string was the Simon & Patrick version of the one you are looking at (built by the same company). I chose it over similarly priced Yamahas and Takamines. Good sound though quite a chunky neck, but I didn't really play it, so ended up selling it. Guild are definitely an option - used JF series are a very good value alternative to the pricier 512s - and the new Chinese all mahogany dreadnoughts are very popular too. Some like the Mexican-made Martin 12s as well.

However, if you are dabbling with 12 strings with electronics for the first time, first name on my list would have to be Taylor. You can get a new 150e well within that budget, a used one for half of it or a used 35x for 800-1000. I have a 354ce, which is very easy to play and sounds good plugged in too. With 12s though, you need to play quite a few to establish what the sound in your head you want is and if buying new, always favour in a set-up, as a set up on a 12 string can have a much larger positive influence on playing comfort than on the equivalent 6-string.

Man that Guild looks awesome. But i am from Macedonia (Europe). And there is no dealers for Guild here. That would be my first choice, but hard to get it here.
BTW that model of Guild F-1512 is made IN China i think. And its hard for me to pay over 1100 dollars for Chinese guitar. :/

My bad, its not the F-1512 model.

Breedlove has a very good reputation in that price range.

My vote also. The Taylor GA3-12. Great action, nice ring. Remember 12s can be more prone to action issues. The taylor has the bolt on neck. These are great buys and will hold their value.

I have played this one a couple of times in the last few weeks. For me, it is very close to what I am looking for in a 12 string. Before I make my decision, I want to try an Alvarez AD60CE. From sound clips, I think it sounds a little more of what I am looking for in a 12 string.

Guild and Taylor are the biggies in the 12 string world so you should try these before making your final decision. With the Taylor, you would have to go used for any model except the 150E to stay within your budget.

I recently bought a new Taylor 150e-12 and really like it. They list at $849, but you can get ‘em for a fair bit cheaper than that. Very easy to play and nice tone. That GA3-12 in the classifieds seems like quite a good deal.

If it says "Guild" on the headstock, you're good to go.

If you can stretch your budget a little, take a look at this Tayloe Leo Kottke 12 string I have for sale - in many people's opinion, one of the best 12 strings ever made:

(And I'm also in the EU....!)
