Van Halen Reverb Trick

Let's give credit where credit is due. That trick was used by many producers. Now, one of the craftiest of the period was Ted Templeman, who produced many acts for Warner Brothers, including the Doobie Brothers, before he got to Van Halen in 1977. All the Templeman-produced Doobie Brothers albums used that trick as a way to spread signals across the stereo sound stage. You can hear it in the intros to songs on the Doobie Brother's What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits album, such as this one:
If I remember right this technique was already covered the RIAA Recording textbook (Modern Recording Techniques 1st Edition by Robert E. Runstein, 1974) by the time it showed up on the Van Halen Album. If you look really, really closely at the back cover of that album (below) I'm just out of the the picture at the upper right. The picture was shot on April 5,1973, at the Knoxville, TN, Civic Coliseum. It was my first rock concert. Bob

Yes good tip
One of several of methods for applying reverb a bit differently . I have a suggestion , from a viewer's advocate stand point, I would suggest consider , for more clarity and visual video impact---- which is rename tracks and inputs and outputs. In fact it is a good organizational tool to do so for personal use as well So for example instead of the track names being Audio 1 ,2 and Aux 1 ... etc. they can read Elec. Gtr 1, Elec Gtr 2 etc. and the Aux with the verb on it could be EMT 140 This makes the mixer and edit windows visually more clear to the viewer as to what is going on Just a thought for the future
