Looking for a steel string classical

I've always felt most comfortable playing a very wide neck. Does anyone make a steel string classical? I can't seem to find anything ready made. Does anyone know a maker of fine guitars who will do this? It's about time for me to get an ultimate guitar before I can't play anymore.

Pretty much any of the AGF sponsors (including myself) could build you a wide necked guitar.

Yeah, a wider neck should be easily done by any competent luthier. If you're looking for something off the shelf, you might try to find an old Gibson F25... these are basically steel-stringed classical sized guitars with a 2" wide neck at the nut.

For some reason I find it funny that right now I'm building some nylon string Voyage Airs... OM body with classical bracing and neck. It's based off from a steel string with a wide neck... It's really not much of a change unless it's a cutaway then there is some geometry that needs to be worked out. My standard "wide" neck is 1 7/8" and I find I can go to 2" without making new bending forms (or tweaking on a hot pipe)

Probably the most "classical-like' steel string guitar I've ever played was built by Al Carruth:

Al is a very accomplished well-respected builder. I remember that guitar looking and feeling much like a classical guitar, long before I made the transition to classical guitars.

Highly recommend that you speak with Al if you're interested in a custom build.

Our CS model is built with classical sensibilities yet with a steel string base. Like has been said, most AGF builders can probably do this for you. Look around at our websites and give us a call.

i played classical for a long time, decided switch to steel string, because i
rather the clear intonation in the high notes( with the chords)
Asked Kronbauer for something close to a classical guitar: 1 7/8, short scale,
low action, custom light strings, with any mark in the fretboard,not inlays and a simple rossete.
i really like it

They also made the FJN, same neck with fancier inlay and a dreadnought body.
