Martin Sinker Mahogany vs. Yairi Mahogany Naturally Seasoned for 40 Years
Good Morning,
The sinker mahogany thread got me thinking about the HD series from Alvarez-Yairi. https://www.alvarezguitars.com/guitar/fym60hd/ I would love to hear some comments on why one would be "better" than the other. Thx |

I am interested in this as well. I've played the Martin sinkers and they are probably what you expect and hope great mahogany to be: woody, warm, resonant with an almost "breathy" quality. Not loud, but I imagine they will open up. I have not played the Honduran Yairis.
I do love my Alvarez Masterworks parlor in "African mahogany", but it isn't a fair comparison and not the one you've asked for. I'll volunteer that it has a focused projection and a fundamental, "earthy" tone. Started out tight, but after a couple years I'm getting some more complexity and resonance. Great for fingerstyle blues with bare fingers.

Can't go wrong with either. I do love sinker though it's cool stuff.
