Default Koa X20 -- before and after resin

The trickiest part of getting an Emerald with a veneer is guessing how the raw piece of wood will look finished. I had an earlier thread trying to decide between two pieces; although the first was more exciting, I opted for the latter banking on how it'd look post-processing. Came out pretty amazing! Interesting how the flow lines in the upper portion ended up overshadowed by the horizontal striping -- those are the sorts of things difficult to anticipate.

Here's the side-by-side from my Padauk models for comparison.

Anybody else have before/after photos to share?

I’d have to dig them up but I’m a plainer guy. Birdseye maple. Certainly not as dynamic as the cover top you have there.

Fun to see the before and after. It takes some imagination (and trust) when picking a veneer. Thanks for sharing those images.

The before picture is beautiful, the after even more so! Love that veneer

Fascinating to see how the koa changed before and after. Those edge wings went WAY darker than I would have guessed. I really like both, but the finished version is quite dramatic. Question: does Emerald provide pictures of the veneer wet with naptha (or something) during the selection process? That is how most woodworkers try to picture the finished surface.

The padauk is more predictable and turned out as I would have envisioned it.

This one is amazing. Such great "story lines." That's what I always look for in a veneer -- but they're hard to find.

Here's mine at the veneer suppliers, template on, and finished. I do really prefer the bridge on the revised X20, but I like my more subtle fretboard swoop.
