One thing I have been doing lately is making sure I giving priority to the heel end of the dovetail. Once the neck starts tilting for its angle the dovetail is misaligned as too tighten with the fretboard side of the dovetail first. You want the heel end to be the tightest as it would be first to fail being under tension from the strings, the fretboard end is in compression and with the fretboard extension glued down that would never give.

It was a challenge trying to maintain alignment with the existing bridge. It wandered a little bit, wider on the bass side but the strings are wider on that side anyway.

This new system I have for getting neck angle is terrific, no more hit or miss results.

I've been following your progress since the previous thread where you stated:

"I now have proof that my measurement of .425" from straightedge to top of saddle is ideal. I thought I was setting this neck to get this measurement but my neck had warped back without me realizing it so the clearance was actually .375". This leaves the strings too high at .100" at 12th fret. I want .080". I have a cut through saddle with 1/8" of exposed saddle. I do have 1/2" top to string clearance. It was an interesting unintended experiment but I am convinced. I am not sure how anyone can dispute this. I will be taking this neck off and resetting it to the proper angle. One thing to consider is that string action only gets higher with time, so it is a losing battle against time eventually."

It appears that you are using a pre dovetailed head block and it was originally glued in off center as indicated by the massive shim on one side. Seems like the suppliers of guitar kits take this approach to simplify things for the builder but create a new challenge in both getting the block perfectly located and then modifying a previously cut neck joint so as to be appropriate for the as built guitar body.

Just curious as to what you changed to get your final results in this thread. If the neck "warped back" leading you to reset the neck, wouldn't you still have a warped neck?

If you changed the angle in the neck, was the area between the neck joint and sound hole changed to avoid fall off of the fingerboard?

The neck was bowed back because the trussrod adjustment had sligthly changed while I was setting neck.

Default More Changes

Just got a customer for this guitar who wants to put an undersaddle pick up in it, so the through saddle bridge had to go.

Straightedge above bridge at .056". Right on target. Going to string it up tomorrow and see how it settles in.

Got plenty of meat on the saddle to bring it down to the 1/2" magic number. Just have to get a good balance of string height at 12th fret, 1/2" to top and good break angle.

This neck set turned out great. I have .090" string clearance at 12th fret, a bit over a 1/2" from string to soundboard and a steep break angle. I can tweak these down after I put on the finish and the guitar settles in. I still can not believe I have been told over and over that my necks are "Over Set". I would like to see detailed photos of other's guitars with their examples to the contrary.

Here is the link to YouTube, I have to figure out how to reverse my camera on my phone, this is not a left handed guitar.
