Default just discovered Eva Cassidy

wow, amazing singer/player. who knows what kind of Guild that is she plays?
Is it a Songbird?

here's a song, followed by links to a news story, Mick Fleetwood talking about meeting her, and a 58 min documentary.

Though she died in 1996 relatively unknown by many, in later years her music would be revitalized and found by many. years after her death, Michael Bolten and Katie Melua would perform a duet with Eva via recorded music-its amazing. this is all in the 58 min documentary. i think these black and white video at a small venue were some of the last taken of her, and i think some of only a few that exist of her performing.

there's a lot of guitar tutorials on youtube of her music.

Default Really? and Now, Kate Wolf

Gosh - just discovered her?

Where have you been?

I think that you should now research Kate Wolf who wrote "Across The Great Divide" - another fine american singer songwriter taken frm us way too soon.

A lot of attention has been paid to that Hawaiian guy's version of Over the Rainbow with the ukulele, but for my money the ultimate interpretation of this is Eva's.

Her guitar was a Guild Songbird.

Eva's guitar playing is quite beautiful as well. However, her singing was out of this world.

He left us at age 38 too.

Eva was 33.

Tragic but they left their mark.

Here are the chord changes she used for OVER THE RAINBOW (excuse my sloppy writing, as I wrote these out in a rush for a gig and never went back to make a neater version). I wrote this chart in 2/4 meter, but pretty sure the song is 4/4 so just erase other bar line Obviously you can capo the 1st fret and play G for the Ab, C2 for the Db2, Dsus for the Ebsus, D for the Eb, etc......

Glad you found her, Daryl! About 8 years ago for me... "Autumn Leaves", and Sting's "Fields of Gold" are my two favorite Eva covers.

Best,
Phil

I'd expand that notion and say that pretty much any song she covered would be the ultimate interpretation....
