My Webber dread - bought it knowing it already had some cosmetic issues.

Bought it back because it was the best sounding dread I've owned by a long shot.

Pictures speak where words don't..

1978 Alvarez Yari DY74. It's had some frets replaced, a new nut a few years ago, and a fishman infinity matrix pickup, and replaced the original grovers about 10 years ago. Action is right where I like it 5/64s, (6) 4/64s (1)
Original case is long gone.

I play all my guitars both in performances and private and, while I don’t lend them out, I will let others play them in a safe setting. The closest I have to a “beater” is my Rainsong which I bought to use when my it wouldn’t be safe to bring along my vintage instruments like at the beach, outside in temperature extremes or on car road trips. I haven’t used it in a long time.

not that it gets out much lately - but mine is an older USA made Harmony 1203 that has been re-braced with forward shifted, scalloped X bracing. Rough as a cob on the outside, but quite wonderful inside!

I don't have a beater. I try to take extremely good care of what I have, but any of them go with me when I am going somewhere to play. That's why I bought them.

That said, one of the attractions of one is that the neck folds and I can put it in a dry bag for overnight canoe trips. It is not a "cheaper" guitar than the others. And it's pristine despite campfire (and other) use. If I should sell it, I might get a CF, something I don't have to worry about getting wet. Or maybe something else with a folding or removable neck.

I don't have one. I think about getting one every now and again, but I'm obviously not interested enough to follow through. When I play I want a nice instrument in my hands.

I have several. This one though is high up in the pecking order - a maple body 0 size Regal.

I've only just got the one guitar, and given that I'm reluctant to take it out places where it might have a chance to get messed up. I'd especially like to bring it camping, because the idea of strumming by the campfire at night is quite appealing, but I didn't like the thought of something happening to it, and leaving me without a guitar. So I went searching for a beater guitar, which I wouldn't actually beat on, but I also wouldn;t have to worry about.

That sort of backfired on me because while I'm sure there are plenty of nice to play $200ish guitars out there, none of the ones I was finding available locally to try were doing it for me, then I made the mistake of picking up a 000-28, and the idea of buying a cheap guitar went WAY on the back burner as I've been somewhat obsessed with the idea of getting a 000-28. So I may have to sell my 000-15 to afford it, and if so I'll probably buy a small inexpensive guitar for my beater. If I can afford to keep the 000-15, it will become the "beater". It will continue to live on the wall where I can grab it for a quick noodle, and if I feel like bringing it out to the beach or camping, of course I'll still be careful with it, but I won't have to feel like I have to leave it at home anymore. Even so I might just pick up a Yamaha FS830, or a Breedlove Discovery Concertina. They both seem like very nice knockabout guitars.

Beater guitar synonyms -

CAMPFIRE GUITAR, KNOCK-AROUND GUITAR, MY OLD LADY, PAWN SHOP GUITAR, KIDS' GUITAR, SECOND HAND GUITAR, TRAILER PARK GUITAR, COVID GUITAR.

Yeah, I made most of those up.
Mine is a '70 Yamaha FG -150. Love it.

I just gave up on babying guitars altogether. I mean, I'm still reasonably careful, but I kind of prefer if they have scratches and dings and all of that stuff now. If it's too clean I worry I'll devalue it, and that's no fun. I play an "aged" d-28 authentic most of the time, and this thing came from the factory with all kinds of dings and scratches. I never liked the idea of making a new guitar look old (seems inauthentic, really), but I've gotta say, I play it this guitar all the time, and in any situation, since I could not care less if I add another character mark. It's pretty liberating

Cole Clark Little Lady 2. At 3/4 size it's a great travel guitar that has a great gig bag. And although smaller in size, the large body shape has great sound acoustically and then of course it also plugs in and sounds fantastic amplified as it has the same outstanding 3-way pickup system as its full-size sister, the Cole Clark Angel 2 which is the next guitar that gets taken out and about for gigs and bonfires and what not. Last is the custom shop Martin D-1 which I will take out but I wouldn't pass that one around to just anyone.

It all depends on the amount and the type of potential beating
If the abuse is weather related then the rainsong comes into play.
If plane travel is involved then the Voyage air is recruited
For a general and local potential guitar beat down the Furch D32 is called into action.

I would still be disappointed if anything happened to these guitar, so even when out and about I treat each with love and care.

The rest all get babied And I try to limit there exposure to the possibility of a beating.
