Default Adobe Audition 1.0 recording problem?

K..I'm using Audition 1.0 and my problem happens when I playback recorded tracks.

The problem has happened when I've recorded vocals, guitars, and synthesizers; so it happens with everything.

Basically when I play it back it sounds all static-y and weird. It also only happens after I save the file and then re-open it. If I play it back right after recording it sounds fine. Also, when I save sound files, this message pops up-

"Saving to Lower Fidelity Format- You may be saving to a compressed (lossy) format. Be sure to keep a backup of your original file if you wish to preserve full audio fidelity."

I tried saving the files as different types but I still get the same weird static-y playback. Anyone had this problem before? Is there a way to reset Audition to default settings just in case I randomly messed something up back the road somewhere?

How do I save to better fidelity?

Thanks. This sucks.

It sounds as though your sound card may be having trouble playing back your tracks. Check to see if the sample rate of your tracks is supported by the sound card you are using.

If that checks out OK you may want to increase the buffer size.
