Imagine

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky

Imagine all the people living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too

Imagine all the people living life in peace

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people sharing all the world

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Agree on Cat Stevens.

Another singer songwriter whose music has kind of a spiritual vibe is Melanie Safka. Ring the Living Bell. Candles in the Rain. There's a Chance Peace Will Come.

Though when I think "non-denominational" I am thinking more along the lines of basic Protestant hym type songs. "Farther Along." "Oil in My Lamp." Etc. You know, stuff from the Gram Parsons/Roger McGuinn school of music.

Here is one I am going to learn and put in my set list
It is "Forever Young " by Bob Dylan
And this is my favorite acoustic cover version from Audra Mae and The Forest Rangers (used on series Sons Of Anarchy)

I am not religious at all but found "Make Me A Channel of Your Peace" to be very spiritual and inspiring. Then earlier this year I attended church for a friend's funeral and figured out that this is actually a hymn also known as "Prayer of St. Francis".

You just reminded me of just about every song Paul Thorn does.

A couple or three of my favorites

I Don't Like Half The Folks I Love (I play this one alot! For my family LOL)

Mission Temple Fireworks Stand

& Joanie, The Jehovah's Witness Stripper.

Just google Paul Thorn and thank me later. He's like Mitch Hedburg with a guitar.

How about Dylan's "Every Grain of Sand"? Gorgeous song. Emmylou Harris does a stunning arrangement.

Yes, thank you for this introduction. He has a bunch of songs that interest me.

Thanks to all of you who made suggestions. I am in the process of following up on several.

Happy to help. I am going to try to catch his next live show if he comes up north of Nashville.

You might check out some songs by Carrie Newcomer. She has some very uplifting and beautiful songs that could be considered spiritual songs and songs that feed the soul.

Best,
Jayne

I have always found k.d. Lang's cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah to be spiritual. We were just out west last month hiking in Sedona and there was a guitarist who performed the cover fingerstyle outside in the garden and fire pit area of the hotel and the audience loved it.

Another popular song would be "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", Eva Cassidy and Israel Kamakawiwo'ole perform very moving covers
