Mod Your MC-012
Aloha Cue,
The Shure SM81 really is a standard for most engineers looking to close-mike an S/D on a guitar Live and has been for decades. With so many choices today, the 81 is actually more popular with engineers than acoustic musicians. It's very durable for live use at gigs. Some find it a bit uninspiring and somewhat clinical sounding. But it is detailed & reliable. I like them for live gigs because I know what to expect from them. There's a used one for sale NOW @ gearslutz for $220: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/gears...hure-sm81.html Ya know, since you've mentioned it on other threads before, you should have Michael Joly mod your Oktava MC-012 and end up with a result that probably would be much better than an 81. $99 + shipping for the mod vs. $335 for a new 81. Your call. It IS affordable. http://www.oktavamodshop.com/index.p...d31jm2lbnqis46 Another inexpensive mic for guitar is the ADK A6 ($375/street for a pair!). I have a pair I would not sell. So does Sdelsolray. All of the samples at Dream Guitars feature a matched pair sans EQ. Here's the description & a Dream Guitars sample: http://www.adkmic.com/catalog/audiophileseries/A6.php http://www.dreamguitars.com/preowned...on_0402114.mov alohachris Last edited by alohachris; 05-31-2010 at 07:26 PM. |
