It will certainly be interesting to see what Rebecca comes up with. I agree with the others that I thought that guitar at B.I.G. definitely had some magic going on. That was one of my favorites at the show.

Time for a long overdue update! This build will start this week, yippie!

I found to the Pink Ivory Parlor at BIG to be one of the most responsive, dynamic, loud for its size and alive feeling guitars I have ever played. There was a certain quality (not really sure how to describe it), but the notes just popped off the fretboard. While it may not be a do everything guitar, and there are some frequency limitations due to the box size, the bottom line is that it was tons fun and magical to play.

Early on during the Pink Ivory Safari we bagged one set. Thanks for all the suggestions! During the hunt I spoke with Rodger Bucknall, Bill Tippin and Marc Mainguard who have all built with Pink Ivory and they all agree that it is a remarkable tonewood. Regrettably (but also understandably) they did not have any sets that they were willing to part with. Bill has a set and Marc has a few, so anyone looking for this unique wood should hit them up for a build. The region the wood comes from is a war zone and that combined with the recent over harvesting means that it will continue to be more or less unobtainium.

The AAA set I got early on from a supplier in South Africa is what we will be using. Rebecca likes the set and says the sides are especially nice. We may incorporate one left over piece she had from the last build (nice and clear vs the knotty set I procured).

We also have Red Cedar from the same billet for the top, further enhancing our chances recapturing the magic

Standard neck shape "Medium C"
1.78" Nut Width 2.29" String spacing
Sound Port
Cutaway
Mini Bevel
Macassar Ebony Fretboard, Binding
Brazilian Rosewood Bridge
Antique Gold Gotoh 510's with Ebony buttons

We're finalizing the layout of the back pieces and then onto the rosette.

Thanks for reading!

Smile Jumbo!!!

Woohoo

The parlor won your heart, but the Jumbo should certainly kick major butt!

Are you getting a wedge or bevel(s)?

We will be able to summon many local creatures next time we get together to jam!

Enjoy the ride

Paul

It's a jumbo set but we are still making the parlor with it. I have considered making a larger box out of it but I'm resisting the temptation to have this be a do everything guitar. It will take up the small guitar spot in my collection. Rebecca only does a micro bevel, so I have opted for that comfort feature.

The best thing about commissioning a guitar is building new friendships during the process. In addition to hanging with many of you blokes at BIG, Rebecca and I hit it off with our common love of the game of golf. She was vacationing nearby, so we hit the links in Palm Desert. She's a great golfer and we had a blast. FORE!

Clearly not a lot of guitar/golf crossover here, haha!

Time for another update.

Thank's to AGF's chief wood fanatic Vasu, we were able to track down a 2nd option for PI back set.

I love it and Rebecca says it taps as well as the original PI parlor set. The sapwood transition and surrounding colors remind me of the horizon at sunset.

Might take a mulligan on the 1st set.

Thank's to AGF's chief wood fanatic Vasu…
I can attest to the accuracy of that statement! If it’s findable, Vasu is the man!
Very pretty back, Seth—congrats!

This is the power of the AGF right (and maybe a party you all 3 attended)? That looks fantastic!

I'm not sure I deserve the accolade, but I'm happy to have helped! Tom is right, there is a common denominator here and its name is B.I.G!!!

Speaking of, Seth does this mean I get the first strum of this soon to be masterpiece at 2022 B.I.G???
