Rosewood J45 is the way to go. It’s the guitar that I’ve had the longest and will never sell.

Southern Jumbo - love the neck profile compared to standard J45. Plenty bassy as well.

You could look for a used Gibson J29, which is essentially a short scale advanced jumbo.

Great to know thanks... Do you know how the vintage condos to the true vintage?

I found the newest 50’s Original J-45 to be much louder and bassier than the previous iteration. The one I tried had the Ebony finish and it almost felt like a “bigger” guitar than the 2019’s standard that was also in stock. It’s very worth the try.

There is a 2008 J-45 TV w/Adirondack top on Carter’s Vintage site right now. It’s priced well.

I tried several J-45’s over the years. I landed on a 2018 Standard that came available in 2020. It sounded bigger than my D-18 that had been played exclusively for 6 years, so I ended up selling the D-18. My J-45 is usually strung with EJ17’s, and it makes quite a difference.

That being said, the 45 is much sweeter, has more punch and the note separation is outstanding.

My 2021 Southern Jumbo ticks those boxes, to my ears. I’m not sure how “loud” it is compared to real banjo killers, but it’s bold and beautiful to me.
