Default Sexauer/2020 (Chapter 2)

Well, we've gotten to the magic post #300 on Sexauer/2020 rather ahead of schedule, compared to previous years. Especially since I didn't start that thread right away in the new year.

If you are new to my presence here in AGF, HERE is a link to the last full page of the previous thread.

Today is the second day in the life of the Snakewood FT-00-C I have dubbed the "Couch Noodler", as it is intended (in my mind) to be a hanging around the house guitar. It has come out as well as I could have hoped. I really could not know in advance how it would be as it is an entirely new design for me, made from a wood I have neither used myself, nor actually seen used by anyone else, though I have heard rumors. Strictly hearsay, so far.

Also, I put the 6th coat of oil varnish on the JB-15 I am making for Tadol. It is made from MadRose he bought while we were traveling in Italy a couple of years ago, when you could do such a thing. We paired it with a Swiss Moon spruce top (Florinette) I bought at about the same time at the Cremona Violin Show we were attending (mistakenly thinking it was a guitar show).

Stay tuned!

I strung up CN#2 today. I made a page for it on my website which is HERE. Also, a couple of the pics from the page for you here:

I went in to fix it, but things look right to me. Any other folks have trouble with it?

FYI, I also made a page today for the Snakewood Couch Noodler, which I expect to deliver on Saturday.

I have played both guitars back to back and it is a very interesting comparison. The BRW one is looser, more Of a normal guitar (normal for me), while the Snakewood one has a unique clarity and penetration and is noticeably louder, particularly in the upper registers. Also, though very thin (.068) in the back and sides, they bother are, the Snakewood guitar is several ounces heavier.

The Snakewood guitar left my hands on Sunday morning, and I will miss it. But I will get the bills paid for a while, and that's a good thing. I still have the BRW CN#2 to play, but I can only believe it too will find a new owner sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, back to work!

This morning I joined the Hampton Bros. sourced top for my new build, an FT-15-C with Myrtle back and sides. I got this set from Les Stansell 8 or 10 years ago, and I am delighted to have a chance to use it.

I joined the back a couple of weeks ago, and today I put in the b/flamed maple/b bound Amazon RW backstrip.

Bob is running a nearby thread on my current build, so I will mostly defer to him for posting my photos of the process.

Here's one anyway:

Another project I am working on at the moment is a flamenco hybrid from local wood, in this case Madrone I cut where it grew about 20 years ago, in Monte Rio California. Traditionally, Flamenco guitars are made from modest but correct cuts from local trees. Here's the joined and sanded 4 piece back:
