As you folks know, I'm mostly a Collings player, and love my dreads and 000 dearly.
After a couple of Eastman archtops, I tried the E20-P as an experiment and whilst not quite as "perfect" as Collings cosmetically, it was a pleasant surprise tonally.

I'd have loved a Collings 002h, but they simply dolt come up much and of course with a significant cost. I've also been looking for a Martin 0028VS, but - none around, so when this blinged out Eastman turned up, well, worth a try!

TFOA were very helpful and I have 30 days return option, but like they say, you can usually tell in the first five minutes.

This is a truly lovely guitar, and will look better after next summer, and will sound even better in a year - (if I'm saved!)

With no gigs or performance n the horizon, my dreads are starting to seem redundant and I believe we baby-boomers are drifting towards the smaller bodied guitars we dismissed when younger.

This is what Eastman can do when they try. If I was C.F. Martin I'd definitely see them as a fret - er, I mean threat.

What an absolutely beautiful box Eastman builds! American companies would charge three, or maybe four times, their price for such quality! Does it come with an 1& 7/8" nut? I'll bet it sounds fantastic!

I'm a true believer in Eastman, and didn't end up owning two of them by mistake! Can't wait to hear you play some tunes on it.....

Don

Beautiful guitar! I'm sure it will meet all expectations. Now the guessing games over I'll have to find something else to do whilst having my early morning cup of tea

Nice thread and great evolution of the acoustic pallette.

I could be following your lead some year soon?

Nice score!

Good point regarding nut width and string spacing.
It was described as a 1 &7/8" nut width, but on phone they measured it and declared it as 1 & 13/16" - I've just put the calipers on it and it is actually 1 & 27/32" (i.e. half way between the two).

String spacing is also between 2 & 3/8 and 2 & 5/16"

These measurements on a Martin should be 1 & 7/8" to 2 & 5/16"

I also have an E20-P (size "O") which should have identical nut/string measurements ...and they aren't

Also the neck profile is quite thick on the "O" and somewhat shallower (and extremely comfortable) on the "OO".

Whilst I am very fussy about fretboard widths and string spacings, both are very acceptable to me.

I've just heard from TFOA and apparently they have ordered a run of five of these.

All I think this proves is that these guitars are still very much hand made.

hi, well, over 10834 views and 130 posts at present, plus 2,074 views and 44 posts on the original thread before it was mysteriously closed.

I happily confess to making this a little fun tease rather than just reporting it with one pic, but I do believe that many of us, of a certain age, are moving from our dreads and jumbos due to to age, waistlines, sore shoulders etc.

I suspect that the market is refocussing on size o, oo and ooo guitars, due to the impossibility of playing out - whether gigging or jamming.

These designs were introduced by Martin in 1895 (size "O"), 1898 (size 00) and 1907 (size 000) and it seems such a shame that Martin discontinued their "VS" line a year or so ago.

Thankfully Collings has retained these designs and indeed improved upon them, and Eastman has taken the lead from Martin.

Andy,
I've never been so excited before about someone else buying a guitar. She's a beauty.

Enjoy!
