Well, I let me address this concern, if for no other reason than putting Tom’s mind at ease.
A small circle of Hackberry, at just .045” thick and inlaid into solid wood, then banded with doubled rings of Texas ebony, is going nowhere. It has been glued into its channel with very strong glue, then soaked from above with cyanoacrylate. It is far more stable than a solid piece supporting itself.
As for bracing underneath, the sound hole and its vicinity is heavily braced due to the need for structural rigidity. I.e. I feel quite sanguine about this little flourish of figured wood.
As for sonic response, it is inlet into the second deadest part of the top and then is not nearly as unresponsive as—say—a ring of abalone.
Again, quite hopeful that there will be less deadening influences from this than from shell or plastic.
I hope this makes sense,

Steve

“I want to build guitars, you see,
And only need two feet—or three—
Or maybe four—of that big board,
That leaves you still a lot to hoard.”

“So can you spare that small a sale?
Though not a mast to hold a sail,
That little piece will be, someday,
The noblest sale you make today.”

“In fifty years—just wait, you’ll see—
I’ll have some friends who ask of me
To build a Texas-themed guitar
And this small piece will be the star.”

Or some such tale was spun until
The owner must have had his fill.
“If that four feet is all you need,
Just take it kid”, I heard him plead.

Though Oklahoma is where I currently live
For this one Texas treasure a "well done" I would give
I love the idea, the craftmanship, all of the woods
In the end it will no doubt deliver the goods

Seriously impressed all the way around
Well done to all! Can't wait for the sound
To come blossoming out of the soundhole in spades
Enjoy every note, Tom, for all of your days!

Thank you Steve for the wonderful reply,
A search for woods no matter where they may lie.
50 years ago the wood was found,
But who knows how long it was hidden before to Nac it was bound.

A beautiful poem from Treenewt was written,
Much thought it was given.
I thank you for your time and the sentiment within,
I too hope to enjoy it, soon it will begin.

Yes, the hackberry was used for its decorative flare,
As a rosette it is solid and does nothing to scare.
It will have no effect on the sound,
and with the treatment it was given, is beautiful I found.

Thanks one and all for replying in thread,
and I bid you good day, but this time in red!

No I love it, but appreciate the trouble,
of trying to rhyme within each and every bubble.
To respond to the build as well as Haiku,
Is hard for me, but maybe not you!

Jamiejoon is sad
That Haiku has gone unloved
Let's laugh and play guitar

Not sad just playing
and admiring all your wit.
So I will offer this:

What is a guitar?
It is just an instrument,
scoffed a passerby

As if that retort
was a sufficient answer
to any question.

You who would be wise
are drawn deeper by time
to see so much more.

Made from wood and steel,
devotion, patience, folly,
splinters, curses, skill

Comes a thing which is
nothing less than infinite
in its potential

For what? Comfort, grace,
inspiration, and lessons
in humility

In the woodpile is
buried treasure. So deep bows
to Steve and Ryan

Roses are red,
violets are blue,
Let me thank Jamie,
For that wonderful Haiku!

The cards are set,
top and back are braced,
A perfect tap I am willing to bet,
Soon with the sides they will be placed.

We have had a break
so been a while without updates.

The shop is back working
So I am back lurking.

We decided to add another Texas wood
To double the sides and make them so good.

Texas sinker cypress is now inside,
to keep the mesquite company as it hides.

The arm bevel support is glued in place,
while supports for the sound port make their case.

Steve is routing the head stock for binding
The work is delicate but he ain't minding.

I see what you did there you sly little devil,
Now go play a guitar, but one with a bevil.

I know you are modest, but are quite witty,
Make sure you play a nice little ditty.

A hat and some boots will be required,
To take this guitar on a spin if desired.

At the next B.I.G. you will try it and I am not jokin,
If you don't like it, the mesquite's good for smokin!

Near the muddy Angelino
Where Texas pine trees grow
There's a shop with two men
Named Steve and Ryan
Whose guitars have been stealing the show

Nice cadence dont you think

Thank you John for the nice shout out,
Steve and Ryan appreciate it no doubt.

Not sure why I started to rhyme,
Posters don't have to, I just thank you for your time.

There once was a man from New Braunfels
At collecting guitars he ex-cels
He said with a grin
As retirement set in
A great instrument Kinnaird West fortells
