Mark,
The bridge sure is a pretty piece of wood.

I'll count on you bringing it with you to the McJam. The other attendees will want to view it over that weekend. You can bring your McKnight, too, but I hope to hear you play this one.

I'll do it. We can't wait. 6 months seems like a long time.

Default Update

I was back in the shop Saturday morning. The finish process has started.

The body of the guitar has it's first step completed.

I wish the pictures could do this top justice.

I've figured out that neck carving is not my favorite part of the build. I've really struggled with this. I am too left brain controlled and can't "see" what I need to take away to get the neck shape I want. This is gonna be slow going.

I hope to continue with the finish and neck carving next week.

Thanks for looking....

I am impressed, Mark. This is superior work for a first timer.

Default continuation

The finish process continues. These pictures don't look much different that the last....

The top is really looking sweet....

and the back and sides with some leveling in progress....

This is my buddy Jason. We work together. His back and sides are acacia wood. Jason's workmanship is excellent. This is going to be a stunning guitar. I hope he decides to post a build thread soon.

I got quite a bit done on the neck, including gluing the peg head cover. I just forgot to take pictures.

Until next time...thanks for looking.

That is one huge shop, Mark! I had wondered where you were building this guitar. I love looking at shops. What kind of weird woman am I?

NOT really looking for an answer to that question.

The shop is huge. Ted makes his living woodworking, so he needs quite a bit of space. Right now, he is in the process of building a custom kitchen cabinet set that takes up a large portion of the shop. From where I took the picture of Jason, there is probably the same amount of room to the wall behind me.

I won't touch the last question .

Default More pics

Well, I've taken a few more pictures...

The neck is nearly complete. Since this photo, I've drilled for tuning machines and cut my truss rod adjustment slot.

It's hard to see, but while drilling for the side markers, the neck rotated and broke the drill bit off in the wood. I was able to get it out with a pair of finger nail clippers.

I need to do a little more body filling before the final coats are sprayed.

Here are a few pictures of some of the other guitars being built in the class.

This one belongs to AGF's Ductape....

We had a mishap on this guitar while routing the binding channel. The router slipped and gouged a pretty good portion of the lower end of the top. With the tobacco burst finish, you can't see the repair.

Progress seems to have slowed, but I hope we can finish by the end of February....We are all anxious to put strings on for the first time.

I see some sweet work in these guitars. Tell the guys they are doing a great job, too.
