Hey thanks Mark! I'll work on that. It would be nice to share and get some input. Now I'm really gonna have to pay attention to documenting it. I've sorta been lax about the pics.

Hey folks. If you can get somewhere like this class and build one yourself, do it. It's been a real blessing.

Thanks Asp. I'll let you know how it sounds. Still several months away from finishing the build.

Default Update with more pics

Well, the build continues. Here are a few more pictures.

This is my friend Mark writing Psalms 33:3 on the back.

And his finished handy work. BTW, Mark is a robbery detective in our department. He's also an artist and guitarist.

The next two pictures are the back and tops both fitted to the sides with a semi-gloss finish.

The box has been glued together using an epoxy.

Here the guitar is dry and has been removed from the forms.

A picture of the sound port. I prefer clayton style tortis picks. I just used the enlarge feature on a copier and came up with the shape. I wanted to do something fancy like a cross, but not on my first build.

Default Continued....

Here is a different view from the sound port. I really thought I put the side bracing in straight!

A view of the rosette.

I've trimmed the excess wood and starting the scraping process. I have a few cuts on my hands from the scraping.

The knees and folded hands you see in the last picture belong to AGF's very own Ductape. His guitar is looking spectacular.

Thanks for looking. I'll post more pictures as the build progresses.

The pictures just don't do this guitar justice. To hold it in your hands and look at the wood, it is breath taking. This thing will look gorgeous wet!

Default Time for another update....

This past week, I worked on routing the binding channel.

One of the guys in the shop created this contraption to route binding channels:

And the results....

In this picture, the binding channels are finished. The bottome perfling channel is cut. Hopefully, I can cut the top tomorrow.

Thanks for looking.

Very clean job. It is going to be beauty.. but I guess the fact that you made it by your hands is priceless anyway.
I am going to enroll in a similar but perhaps more intensive guitar making course this fall (everyday, 5 days a week, from morning to evening, 4 weeks) , I am a bit nervous. I am not very sure about my musical and wood making capabilities.... any encouragement ?

That time frame would be a dream. It's killing me to wait. Once-a-week seems like it's taking forever. You are right about hand making a guitar being priceless. I can't wait to play this guitar.

If your instructor is anything like Ted, he won't let you fail. I've not had any wood working experience prior to this and he is with us every step of the way. If you take your time...sometimes really take your time, you'll be amazed at what you can do.

I hope you take lots of pictures and keep us posted when you start.

Knowing what little I know now, I may have chosen a different tone wood for my first build. Ziricote is a bear to work with. It's extremely dense and is prone to cracking. It's caused a couple set-backs along the way (really the set-backs were my inexperience with the wood). That being said, I love the way it looks, so I have no regrets.

You will change your mind after you hear the warm balanced sonic delivery of the Ziricote. here is mine.

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7877211

And since you are building it yourself, it will really be special, as far as the cracking, well it just needs to be constant RH it's long life, a small price to pay for such elegant sonic transfer. Just an FYI

If you feel I have hijacked yoru thread just tell me and I will remove the pics no problem at all.
regards
Donnell

I guess it all stands and falls on a teacher.
Making guitar is in its core a technical process like building a chair, but making a musical instrument that's a whole another story. It is an art form and a good luthier is an artist.
I hope one day to make a musical instrument, not just guitar.

I love all the Ziricote from the pictures, but no I don't think my first and second guitar would be made from it. There is always time for Ziricote...

And missuori.picker, that's some back you have there!!!
Oh and BTW, Sergei de Jonge is the teacher where I am going, I saw his name in your sig.
