Rory's neck joint is a work of art in itself.

And the guitar is amazing--excited for you, Dustin!

Very true, hope you can make it over to the shop.

Here's a final set of photos before I make my way to Rory's in December to pick up the guitar. I am very excited to see the hues darken after finish, especially the rippled Sycamore and the beautiful Scottish burr elm. Rory had a few words about putting on the bridge which I thought I'd share and I also had to ask him about what appeared to be a modified neck carve which I had not seen before and to this he said:

"Very astute my man! I’ve been shaping them thinner in this area for the reason of access. Because our mortise and tenons are so big the heel of the neck is effectively inside the guitar so we can take it back towards the body loads. I think yours is about 12mm from the body at the shallowest. Basically you’re on the 13 fret before you hit the heel.

"I did get your bridge made. I always think of them as a key to a door. Whimsical I know but without that small delicate piece of wood the guitar is nothing, the doors will not open. Anyway I basically love carving them because each one is totally different and has to work with the guitar, like a key for a lock."

Look forward to sharing some photos from Scotland and of course some studio videos. Cheers!

Default Taran "Tirga Beag"

What a beautifully designed and crafted guitar Dustin. You must be super excited now that it is so near completion. I hope you'll bring this one with you to the next B.I.G. so we can see it and hear you play it. Enjoy your travels.

This will look incredible when it's finished. Beautifully understated. I found the next however many weeks so hard. There's a guitar there - but you can't find it what it's really like just yet. And you can imagine what the looks will be, but the sound is still a bit of a mystery. Tantalisingly close!

Oh my gosh, this is like a fairy tale. What a beautiful instrument, and what a treat it must be.

Congrats Dustin. I am such a huge fan of Rory's hot sand fades, he does them to perfection as he does the rest of the guitar as well.

Have fun.

Tom

That would be wonderful, I hope Rory ends up making his way to the States somehow in 2022... I was so looking forward to 2020's lineup but alas 2021 made up for it in spades! Hope you're well, my friend.

I love it. I haven't heard much from Rory probably because he also knows it might be cruel to get in touch without big news or photos to offer, haha! I might tell him no worries sending more photos, to be honest. I can't wait to just see it in person, finished and ready for some tunes.

Dec 7-10. But I will say that this is actually completely tentative on Jeff Hoffee finishing my and Alan from Cedar Rock's cases, though... Which I would need to bring them back via plane. If they aren't done in time I will need to do a shorter trip (hopefully) the week after. I'll admit I'm just a little anxious about that.

Yes, as well as the bridge.

I made a super long post on my Facebook about how the trip to Scotland was, but rather than blab about it here - I'll share a collection of photos from the trip for a little visual storytelling (some studio shots I took of the guitar at the end) I can't recommend working with Rory and his team enough. They are honestly in a class all their own. I wouldn't say that lightly, I'm amazed at how perfect this guitar plays and sounds for what I do. 10/10 experience.
