Default SOLD Martin Authentic D28 1931 12th Fret - Rich, Huge voice.

I purchased this from one of the largest Martin dealers in the US (at least based on their inventory) some years back. I did not verify in person, but I was assured that this was 'the' pick out of three available.

This is a Martin Authentic D28 based on a 1931. Apparently 1931 is the very first year Martin made the D28 and back then, it was a 12th fret body with herringbone purfling that is now famously on the HD-28. This is the loudest guitar I've ever owned and has a full, rich Martin dreadnought voice with ample bass, and yet remarkably balanced. Fingerstyle gets the full tone out, and yet is obviously great with a pick. Probably the richest tone of all the guitars I have owned. Truly a grand piano of a guitar. These are also difficult to find as long-term owners have sorted themselves out, and most are not looking to sell.

Here's a video comparison between two authentics - this model 12th fret vs a 14th fret.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRc47BDNtmg&t=113s

Quick specs:

12th fret Dreadnought
1 7/8 neck
Tall Saddle, good action.
Adirondack Top
Madagascar Rosewood back and sides
Gloss finish
Original case

I would rate the condition as excellent with zero dings. Generous saddle. Original case. There is the tell tale Adirondack coloration stripe on the top, but less accentuated in person. For some reason, the camera added contrast so that the strip looks more obvious than reality.

I prefer a direct in person sale in Southern California to avoid risks in payment and shipping. Plus, a face to face sale allows you to evaluate the instrument first.

Please PM if interested. Thanks.

Thanks Couchstrummer. Yes it is a wonderful guitar indeed. I think this is quite special among the Martin Authentics as one of only two 12th fret dreads.

To the top.

Thanks Paul,

Yes, it has a phenomenal tone and is one that I thought I would never sell. But we are parting with every single one of our guitars over $3K - Every. Single. One.* which is why guitars are showing up here on AGF The Gibson Historic 1942 SJ is another example. SuperB23 said it was the best of the modern Gibsons he has played. I sold that too - and the current owner has had quite a few custom Gibsons including a number of Historics currently and said, indeed, that it may well be his best yet. Will take a few weeks to be sure. That was a difficult one to let go too.

It also has a very full tall saddle with proper action so likely no neck reset for the next couple of decades.

*The only allowance over $3K we are giving is an eventual all Koa guitar that we think may be over $3K, but that's a different personal story that reflects our journey in our married life.

Picture of the saddle added. Generous height. Yet with relatively low action.

Thanks to all who inquired about this instrument. It did sell to the first person who showed up to give it a run. He is thrilled, and thus, so am I.

I can genuinely recommend this model as a fantastic instrument. I feel that it is suited to both fingerstyling all the way to hard strenous rhythm. It has a great dynamic range and surpringly strong balance across the spectrum. I've been selling instruments not because they are inferior but because I am down 'pricing' my own instruments as a matter of conviction.

So for those who are looking for one, I hope that you do find one of these wonderful guitars. Thanks!
