Other instruments that you'd like to learn
I have two secret desires......
Violin Piano Piano is easy, I could get a decent keyboard... Violin? My wife would put a pillow over my face....

Hammered dulcimer. I have a lovely one and have messed around with it, but never mastered it. So, I've always thought that would be one of my retirement goals.

I always liked the idea of piano but chose guitar because in those days (pre - mini keyboard) you couldn't carry a piano around with you.
Now whenever I see a piano in a public area with a 'Play me' sign on it I wish I had made the effort earlier. I too would love to play violin but I'd avoid the pillow from wife by using an electric violin (unplugged) . |

My grandpa's 100+ year old fiddle. I'm slowly learning, but I will never give it justice.

As you can tell from my username, the fiddle is my “other” instrument! If you’re learning fiddle or violin, or want to learn. My best advice to you is, don’t try to teach yourself. You’ll learn so many bad mistakes that they may be impossible to break or extremely hard! As the old saying goes, ask me how I know! It is one of the most rewarding instruments you can play and at the same time, the most frustrating. Nothing makes a crowd go wild at a show, like a fiddle player ripping into a solo. I’d also recommend NOT wasting your money on one of these $100 beginner instruments. Getting it setup properly will cost as much as the instrument did. Find you a decent $400-500 one, that the pegs have been set on and will stay in tune and put some decent strings on it and get ready to practice, practice, practice! To answer the question, if you’re playing it right, it’s a fiddle. If you’re playing it wrong, it’s a violin!!

At this point in my life I don't have a desire to learn another instrument. If I had to choose though, the banjo.

I've been reading music for 45 years. And I have learned the notes on the fretboard. Just gotta give the instrument the time it deserves.

I've always had a hankering to learn how to play the Quadrangularis Reversum.

That ability puts you so far ahead of the game!! I have a good friend who's played fiddle for over 30 years and is an amazing fiddle player and he can't read a stitch of music! He's told me so many times that he's jealous of my ability to do so and I can't for the life of me figure out why he doesn't sit down and learn it! There's so many books out there that you can learn from.

Keyboard. Have made several attempts over the years but when I encounter a difficult phrase on keys that I could easily play on guitar I ask myself why am I bothering and forget the whole idea.
