Default Vintage Yamaha CJ818 on the way!

So, I unexpectedly won a best offer on a Vintage Yamaha CJ-818 Early 80's (315 including S+H which was below his asking). It looks to be in really good condition with very little signs of use and only some scratches on the sides, but i will be posting pictures whenever it arrives!

Congrats! I look forward to seeing the pics once you get it. I just got a 1979 CJ-838S a few weeks ago and really like it. I'm having a pickup in it as we speak. Enjoy your new guitar!!

Here's mine. I got it a couple weeks ago, and it's become one of my favorite guitars. In the short time I've had it, it's really opened up. The notes just ring out so clear! It definitely has a sound of it's own.

I've been on an old Yamaha kick lately. You can't see them well, but behind the 818 in the rack are my FG-160 and FG-170. I also have a FG-75, a FG-512 12-string, and a G-50 classical.

Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

Being a confirmed and unrepentant Yamaha junkie (I have only three, so far...), I'm officially envious! Are the little 'tab' things around the soundhole something to do with a pickup?
Nice score.

The beauty of being a Yamaha junkie is that you can get '70s-'80s Yammies pretty cheap. The most I paid for any of mine is $250 for the 818.

The black tab is a D'Adderio micro tuner. I have them on all my guitars. The white thingie is a volume knob. I've been developing my own K&K-style pickups, and have one installed in that guitar.

Congrats! I've had one I got on CL a few years ago. Great solid guitar. I actually added a K&K pickup in it. Sounds great at small gigs.

My only little negative is that I'd think it'd be a little Bassier due to it's slightly larger size. My Yamaha FG335 from same era has slightly more Bass.

It arrived today! Pictures and an NGD post coming later tonight but I only had a little to play it before i had to run. I have been very impressed so far even though the action is a little lower than I might have liked. Question though, if it currently has Extra Lights on it, will changing over to Lights cause any issues?
