Default Eastman E10-00-12F-M

I am considering trading out my GS Mini Koa for an Eastman E10-00-12F-M all hog 12 fretter. Has anyone played this particular model and have comments? I like my Mini Koa, just wish the nut was wider as so many other Mini owners do. Is this Eastman boxy sounding when strummed? I may not swap, but can't find many reviews of this particular model online.

This is a pretty good comparison I think.
The sound of the Eastman travel guitar is really inferior in comparison to the other two IMO.
Those Eastman OO-M12's sure are pretty.

I have an Eastman E10OO-M that I really love. There's no "12" in the model designation, but it is a 12-fretter. It does have a 1 3/4" nut as opposed to the Taylor GS Mini's 1 11/16". It sounds fabulous for blues and ragtime styles. If it were me, I wouldn't hesitate to make the change.

I think the sound of the E10OO-M in the video provided by Drak is a good representation of what mine sounds like.

One thing I did notice in the video is that it seems to be a lot larger in size than a Mini. Any idea of the overall length of one? I can measure the mini I have for comparison. I expect and increase, but I do still want a smaller guitar too. The Taylor 322 series is small and only about 2” longer than the Mini, just as an example. I would like to be in a similar length as that. I still would take it with me the few times a year that we do take trips.

The Eastman 00 12-fretter is going to be short scale (24.9"). Meanwhile, the Taylor mini is going to be similar to the Eastman "3/4" travel guitar, which has a 23.75" scale. I have an Eastman ACTG1, which sounds great (and very favorably to a GS mini), but nowhere near the voice of my 00, 000/OM, or bigger guitars.

Those 00 Mahogany guitars are not part of the regular assortment, so if you have a chance to get one, I wouldn't give it a moment's hesitation.

While I don’t know about that particular model, I recently purchased a E10SS, that, while by no means is a substitute, has softened the blow of being forced to sell my Vintage D last year. Perhaps this has something to do with the Adirondack top, or perhaps not, but either way, I could have done much, much worse!

I haven't played that particular model but based on the new Eastman's I have played, I'd say it had to be a really good guitar. I actually liked the E2D Cedar better than the E20D thermo cured I used to own...for a third of the price. I don't know how they can do it?

So, those of you that have played a GS Mini and a "00" size guitar, do you feel that you could travel with a 00 guitar as good as you could with a GS Mini?

Absolutely. And I'd prefer the fuller sound of a 00 12-fret over any travel guitar. No brainer for me.

You know, I didn't bring it up, but you did, so...
It is the weirdest thing.
Every time I see that YT, I cannot get over how HUGE that OO looks.
It looks like a jumbo!
But it's Not! It's an OO, nothing more.
I mean every time I've watched that, it grabs me how big that OO looks.
If I didn't have an OO myself, I wouldn't know what to think.
I don't know if it's camera angle or what's really going on there, but it's really strange.
In that YT, I swear it looks 10 times it's real size and I don't exactly know why that is, except that it's not really.

There are two factors at work here, I think. First, the video is shot from a fairly low-to-the-ground perspective, and second, I think he's using some sort of wide angle lens. A wide angle lens makes things close to it look bigger than they really are, and things far from the lens look smaller than they really are.

I thought that 00 looked huge also, that’s what was making me question it so much. It would be nice to see a true side by side comparison. I think it’s definitely the camera angle causing it to look so massive

Default Some dimensions

Martin 00-12 should be close to the E10-00M.

https://www.martinguitar.com/feature...ials/sizetype/

Total Length...........37 3/4"
Body Length..............19 5/8"
Body Width...........14 1/8"
Body Depth..............4 1/16"

Scale - 24.9" on the Eastman. Also the Eastman lower bout width is 14.75" and depth 4", so just a little off the Martin dimensions. The body length should be close to the Martin 00-12

Taylor GS mini dimensions

Overall Length: 36-5/8"
Scale Length: 23-1/2"
Body Length: 17-5/8"
Body Width: 14-3/8"
Body Depth: 4-7/16"
