Thumbs up Have you met your Guitar Hero?

Here is a blast from the past that needs revisiting!

Sunday 17th of April 05...Even though I`ve seen Dan Crary & Beppe Gambetta together in concert twice,I`ve never seen Dan performing by himself.Well Dan did a show at my friends place www.sawbriar.com last night.I got to listen to the sound check and stay after the show. What a great guy as well as an Excellent musician. The entire 2nd set was on his 12 string,I was just blowed away.He really enjoyed himself and loved this venue. The show was about the history of the steel string guitar, mixed in with facts and humor. He is a retired college professor and his wife as well is a college professor. If you ever get a chance to see Dan,do so you won`t regret it!Lets hear your story......

PS. He signed my new baby for me......That seems to be a trend among us agf`ers....

I've met some of them. But I don't really have only one.

Sorry to say a lot of them are dead now

Of the five I would love to meet, I have met three: BB King, Glen Campbell, and Doyle Dykes. Of the remaining two, one is still a possibility, Buddy Guy. The fifth, Stevie Ray Vaughan, will not happen in this lifetime. Maybe the next, though.

My guitar heroes? There are so many...

I've been listening to Wishbone Ash since their Live Dates Album made its debut in 1973. Everything from some really cool blues including lap steel to some really moody progressive stuff. Their guitarists, Andy Powell and Ted Turner (no, not that Ted) and bassist Martin Turner created some really spacey electric textures which were really outside the guitar box, then and now. I never got to see them play, though.

Well, anyway, fast forward to November 1996 and a two-week trip to the UK. While I spent two weeks traveling around the island, they were touring around the island as well. I spent the the time trying to make a connection and never did.

Then, after I returned home, in a few months, I learned that they were coming to a Washington D.C. near me... Had to go. It was great! And it turns out they are one of those bands that likes to come out afterwards and chat it up with the crowd. I finally got to meet Andy Powell, whose style I have admired since the '70s.

Nice guy.

Bob

I met my favorite artist, John Denver in 1994. Not the best guitarist but the man who inspired me to play.

Yep. Doyle Dykes.

He's done several workshops in the Houston area. I have seven of his CD's. Three of them were free, but that's another story.

Jimi Hendrix...I was working in a local music store when he came to town and needed extra guitars for his show. We had two in stock that fit the bill. I tuned them and delivered them. One of his roadies led me backstage where he very graciously took delivery and thanked me for tuning them and asked me if I played. I was so starstruck that all I could do was say "uh-huh". After the show I realized that was an overstatment.

Hi...
I've met a few of my guitar heros (I have a bunch). In fact, I play better than a couple of them. I still admire them and am grateful they inspired me to grow.

I met Tommy Emmanuel just over a week ago. I met Pete Huttlinger last June.

Two of my favorites.
