Question What exactly is meant by the term "cross picking"?

Inquiring minds want to know... any specific song or TAB examples would be appreciated.

CROSSPICKING IS WHEN YOU "CROSS" OVER ONE STRING TO PICK ANOTHER AS PART OF A ROLL (SORTA LIKE A BANJO ROLL) WHILE STILL MAINTAINING THE INTEGRITY OF YOUR DOWN-UPS.

FOR EXAMPLE, IF YOU HAD A MEASURE OF MUSIC MADE UP OF 4 SETS OF 1/8 NOTES THAT PICKED STRINGS 4-3-2-4-3-2-4-3 YOU WOULD PICK IT AS DUDUDUDU WHERE YOU PICKED THE 4TH STRING ON A DOWN STROKE THE 3RD STRING ON AN UP STROKE THE 2ND STRING ON A DOWN STROKE AND BACK UP TO THE 4TH STRING ON AN UP STROKE.......

IF THAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE, GO TO HOMESPUN TAPES' WEBSITE -- THEY SHOULD HAVE SOME VIDEOS DEDICATED TO CROSSPICKING.

CROSSPICKING IS FANTASTIC WHEN DONE UP TO SPEED -- IT'S VERY FULL SOUNDING. I FOUND THAT WITH SOME PRACTICE I COULD GET UP TO SPEED CROSSPICKING 1/8 NOTES. TRIPLETS ARE ANOTHER MATTER (AT LEAST FOR ME).

ANYWAY, I HOPE SOME OF THAT HELPED.

GOOD LUCK,
GIBBY

Crosspicking is a technique that us Worship Leaders use....

We pick to honor Christ for what He did for us at the CROSS...

Well I DID see a VERY industrious little girl in her stroller once. I guess she took it to heart when Daddy said "Both hands for beginners!"

It's s true story! Except for the "cross-picking" part, she was just using both hands!

Well, Gibby, you are right of course. I just have never heard the term before and have no clue as to the answer and so just resorted to silliness. Forgive me, please no harm intended!

Are there any mp3s or sound samples on the web
you can recommend so we can all here crosspicking in action.
(but not masked by other intruments-just the guitar playing
the cross picking style)

Gibby's answer matches Dan Crary's from last night.....wow! He was endorsing three string approaches so that the down accent moved every time in the same chord. (DUD UDU DUD UDU) and the cross was when a string (up or down) or strings were skipped. (ABE, etc.)

So cross picking is AKA alternate picking, eh?

Same answer as Dan Crary, huh? If I could only play like him

Now c'mon meridian, my post was with a capped CROSS and PICKING -- get it? It fits right in with the other puns. Plus I slapped a smiley on the end -- it doesn't get any more clear that I was joshin' than that. Life is Good!
