Default Any vintage Fender expertise? (Restore is complete)

I may have stumbled upon a 73 or 74 Jaguar.

It's a trainwreck, but it does look to be from those years. Body is solid some of the control plates may just need a good cleaning. Neck pick gaurd and electronics all need to be replaced.

Considering a rebuild project, if anyone has tips, pointers sources for parts and materials, could you PM me? thx!

I would go over to the TGP (The Gear Page) Forum and check out the vintage section. There are players and luthiers over there that live and breath that stuff all day long.

The forums at Surf Guitar 101 will be all over a 70's Jaguar. There are quite a few very knowledgeable people on the boards. If you decide not to keep it then I'm sure there will be a motivated buyer there as well. Good Luck!

thanks guys, I've checked out a few of these forums, and there seems to be a lot of info

I'll hit this surf one next.

I've got the body ready for sanding and ordered some re-finishing supplies
the plan for now is Sea Foam green. Something about that color always gets me.

here's a few pics

The folks on the offsetguitars.com forum must be digging this guitar right now!!! They are a great gang who really love offset style axes. Great information base also. Good luck with your resto mod!

Hey RMP,
I got to look at your pictures on a big screen iPad and saw the significant damage to that beautiful blocked and bound neck. What is the likelihood it could be saved? Can they fill those cracks and splits with wood filler, new nut and then a refret and then reset the blocks of acrylic? I bet they can. Keep us informed, I would love to see the process of reviving this old girl!

I am with ya 100% to restore that would be perfect..

That neck was a heart breaker when I saw it. I'm sure there is someone that could restore it, probably cost a plenty too.

The guitar was left out side, leaning up against someone's barn.

in the winter weather..
in New Hamspshire..
(...Slaps forehead..)

Not sure if that's where the neck took the damage, but it didn't help. Some of the blocks are pulling up as well as the cracks along the way. What a shame! There's almost no fret wear visible either.

I'll drop in with my progress. this is the first time I've taken on a project like this, I've NO IDEA what I'm about to embark on,, but I'm goin anyway.

yep exactly, scoped one out they run around $400/450

the FENDER MIM Jag necks (not bound, dot inlays) are around $199

Might start there. and see how the project shapes up

There are soooo many of those guitars that are trainwrecks.

Good news is. With just a little love and care They can have a new life.

The parts are starting to arrive, with the neck and wiring harness coming by end of the week. Still need to order pickups.

The body is ready for paint and clear coat. I'd almost go natural, but there's some divots and dents I had to fill and sand down which will kind of wreck it for just clear coat.

Took me about three months to get this one done.

I can't believe how good it plays and sounds.

Not like something --I-- put together.. that's for sure

Before

and.. TADA!! After

Where did you source the pickups?
