Default Play both ways?

How many of us can play at an equal level from both the right side and the left?

I was thinking, after all these years, what would it be like to start left handed? I guess I’d know a lot more than when I started but be held back by not being left hand experienced…

I think this would be extraordinarily rare. Every so often I finger a left-handed chord and think, "Was it this hard when i started?" Doesn't seem possible that it could have been so.

That’s what I’m thinking too. My 36 year old son wanted to learn to play. I sent him a guitar and we started Zoom lessons. He really struggled for a while. Looked so hard!

I'm naturally left handed. I use power tools both right and left handed. I can write legibly with either hand. I can wield silverware equally well either way.

I've never tried to play musical instruments left-handed, I learned righty.

When I use the horizontal slider in the transform tool in Final Cut Pro to flip the image 180 degrees I become equal at playing left and right (See link below)

Hi Slothead
We have a forum member who did that a few years back, and she accomplished less left handed than she had right handed. And she's pretty accomplished playing conventionally.

One of my guitar heroes, Cliff Aungier (RIP), was ambidextrous. He normally played left-handed, but I saw him at jam session once where he picked up a right handed guitar and played it **** near as well as he played left-handed. That's despite being rather drunk at the time....

Here's the man in action, just to give a flavour of his shambolic brilliance (playing Broonzy's Hey Hey his way):

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.
