Default Patriotic Tunes

So last night our minister of music called and said "you know any patriotic tunes?" I said no. He said, "well, could you learn anything by Memorial Day?" I said "sure". So, anyone got any good fingerstyle patriotic tunes they'd be willing to share? If not, anyone have any advice on a good book or web resource with some? I'd like to have at least two or three weeks to get something together, so time is of the essence.

Thanks.

Mark Hanson has a book of American Songs. I've never tried it, but most of his stuff is pretty good.

It's not overtly patriotic, but I'm a big fan of "Pink Houses". Can't say that it's ideal material for Church, but that song feels more like my country than any other. Not soaring patriotism, but just this knowing celebration of all the goods, bads, and in betweens that make up the experience in this nation. Love that song. Never gets old. That it's Mellencamp and I'm from Indiana is probably why.

There's got to be a fingerstyle arrangement of "America, the Beautiful," or something like that. Keep looking, and I'll keep looking for you.

I like the Pink Houses idea. Maybe I could do that along with "Guitars, Cadillacs, and Hillbillly Music" (Dwight Yokam). I bet that would wake up the half of the congregation that usually is asleep in our wonderful little Southern Baptist church.

I'm not kidding - we really do need something like that (but I won't do it, not yet anyway).

I have managed to find one pretty decent version of America The Beautiful. Let me know if anyone has more ideas or comes up with any music.

A great song for Memorial Day is "Searching for a soldier's grave". Its pretty obscure even though its been recorded by lots of people including Hank Williams & Ralph Stanley and Dylan peforms it in concert as well. Its a real tear-jerker.

I learned it from the Louvin Brothers CD - 20 All-time greatest hits which came out in 2002 (I think).

I found the lyrics & chords on the web.

Oh - I guess I should mention that this is solo guitar - no vocals. I might can play well enough to hold a few folk's attention, but if I were to start singing I'm figuring the church would be hit by lightning or something.

Jimi Hendrix' version of the Star Spangled Banner, live from Woodstock, '69!

Maybe an acoustic version (with wah-wah pedal )

There is a hymn called "I vow to thee my country". It can practically be done any style.....
Charlotte Church has a classical opera style version of it on one of her CDs
