Default Flammang J-55 - SOLD

I'm selling this gorgeous 2011 Flammang J-55. I recently had David build me a J-35 to my personal specs and it is getting all the attention. So this one needs to go to someone else to enjoy. David is an incredible builder that makes everything with his own two hands in Greene, Iowa. I got turned onto him through my friend Jorma Kaukonen and never looked back. They are all incredible guitars.

SOLD. Payment fees by buyer if necessary. I'm in Boulder, CO if you want to play it.

This includes a brand new Crossrock case.
SN: 184
  • Indian Rosewood back & sides
  • Red Spruce top and bracing
  • Hide glue construction except top seam is Titebond
  • Nut width = 1.736" measured with a digital calipers
  • String spacing at saddle = 2.1" digital calipers
  • Neck depth 1st fret=.928", 9th fret= .980" Full "C" shape
  • Ivoroid fretboard and body bindings
  • Ebony fretboard with Mother of Pearl dot markers
  • Ebony bridge with bone bridge pins
  • Waverly tuning machines with Ivoroid buttons
  • K&K pickup
  • There are a few very tiny impressions and signs of "enjoyment". One of the photos shows the worst one I could find. The rest are not really photographable.
  • The sound is meaty and full. Clear and singing. A very energetic guitar.
  • Mr. Flammang told me he built this for a client that wanted the neck to match his 1959 ES-335. I'd say he nailed going off of the neck I'm used to on my Les Paul '59 reissue (R9).

For more pro photos you can see them here on Guitargal's site where I bought it. Robin is VERY conservative in her online descriptions and I was more than pleased when I got the guitar in better shape than expected from her description. I think you will be too.

I always struggle with photos on this site. Try that link above.

Any time. Now I just have to convince myself not to buy it

Am I correct in saying this is built similar to an Advanced Jumbo but with a short scale? IIRC the J55s have the same advanced X-bracing.

Yes, that's a great way to describe this guitar. Much like a short scale Advanced Jumbo. My AJ was my main guitar for a number of years and sold it when I got this one. The tone on the Flammang knocked the Gibson right outta the house.

Then I ordered one with a wider neck and string spacing b/c it works better with my Jorma-style metal fingerpicks. The neck on this one feels more like a vintage Gibson electric.

Default Gorgeous...

What a beauty. I'd be all over this one if it wasn't for the nut width & string spacing. Gorgeous 'burst'. GLWS.

I just remeasured the nut with a digital calipers and it is 1.736" so not as narrow as a true 1-11/16".
