Pablo, you are going to love that BC Cedar top! I would say mine is a bit more to the browner side than your pic above, but of course that could just be the lighting. The bearclaw is very subtle, but beautiful.

It has a wonderful warm tone to my ear, and plenty of headroom as well--you will be very happy!

And Boys In the Boat--probably my all-time favorite book!

Pick on and enjoy...

Thank you Nemoman! I am sure you are reveling in your BEAUTIFUL new graybeard. I really love what John does with WRC.
Pretty sure he could make a killer instrument out of an old pallet and some 2x4s, like the famous Taylors, a couple of which I have played. (but John's would sound even better!)
The Boys in the Boat was a fine read and very moving story.

Bruce S, I love your story about harvesting the beached WRC! I would Really enjoy hearing what you could build with that salt water cured WRC wood at this point in your long and illustrious career.

Cheers

Paul

Paul, I'm following this with a lot of interest. I'd love an "almost traditional" cutaway dread with all the comfort features. Seeing this in slope shoulder will be a good idea as to how that would look. I'm sure this will be yet another killer guitar!

Thanks for checking in Mike.
I have absolutely no doubt John could build you exactly what you seek, and we seem to have similar wants for sure.

I want all the comfort, AND a port and cutaway, but way prefer a more traditional appearance otherwise.
I also want great tone at any volume level from whisper to a ROAR. John's big guns really deliver!

Although Slope may not quite describe the shoulders, due to the cutaways...

Meanwhile back at the bench, John sent pics this afternoon 20211013_151007.jpg20211013_152549.jpg

A different crop of the cutaways pic. See what I mean, Mike?

Play on folks and have FUN

Congratulations on yet another fantastic JK build. The wood choices are stunning!
I will be watching throughout the build, drooling all over the keyboard.

This just in from John

"Bent lining pieces for laminating the top bass side. The bent square of Koko wood will be reinforcement for the sound port. It goes on first. Such exotic woods. I got the Koko wood from an old friend in Atlanta over 40 years ago. This is the last of it nearly."20211015_145220.jpg

Trust John to use beautiful and exotic wood where no one will even see it! Hahahaha

He is using Western Red Cedar for the linings and inner bits. He says it is even lighter and sounds better than Spanish Cedar (which is not actually a true Cedar)

Thanks Godfather. Keep a towel handy.... hope you are doing GREAT

Cheers

Paul

So far, so good guys! Here’s a vote for Bocote trim on that pretty Myrtle body. First cousin to Ziricote, but with a hint more green to its hue which seems to go well with Myrtle. Just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestion Steve! I am leaving the binding wood up to John, as he, like you, has spectacular sense of what works together!

Hey Hubcapsc, that Osage Orange back is pretty! That one is a Steve Kinnaird build, I believe. Stay tuned for more.

I hope everyone had a fine Halloween! No sugar hangovers, either....

These pics just arrived:

I really LOVE these Celtic Knot rosettes. Not sure about the extra rings...
please let me know YOUR thoughts!

Don't worry. John is NOT using particle board for the top! Hahahaha

I say leave the rings but maybe bring them in a little tighter?

I agree. I am not a fan of oversized rosettes.

Just in from John:20211103_103117.jpg

"Lining glued in shaped and sanded.

All western red cedar just like the top.

Next I glue in the carbon fiber supports then side braces then the sliding mechanism for the adjustable neck."

Woohoo

Yum--look at those myrtle sides! And the cedar top should look beautiful with them.

I love my myrtle guitar--I predict you will love yours as well!

Looking good, John and Paul!
