When I was looking at acoustics Alvarez was given serious consideration. But I like the feel of the neck on my Takamine's better. Not that the neck on the Alvarez is bad, it is rather good.

Let me say Alvarez is an excellent instrument. If for the fact the shop I go to didn't carry Takamine along with Alvarez the Alvarez would have come home with me.

If I was to name off companies that consistently perform above their price point, the first company I would name would be Yamaha, the second would be Alvarez. Another way of putting it, if someone who knew nothing about guitars asked what brands to shop for a guitar at any price under $1000, Alvarez would be on that list.

They should also be considered for guitars over a thousand dollars. The Yairis are some of the finest guitars made and I've owned Martins and Taylors. I've settled on two Martins and two Yairis to take me into retirement.

Hi there and welcome!

What is it you are wanting to know? There are quite a few very knowledgeable users here, and there are contacts we can share that are not here...

All depends on what you are wanting to find out!

I certainly don't claim to be the most knowledgeable about Alvarez guitars but I may be able to answer your question.

I have an MC90 that I purchased new in 2004 for $309.99. (I have the receipt in the case still) I remember thinking at the time it was a good price.
Great guitar, great sound. Sustain is amazing. It's one of 2 guitars I reach for first. I've played it all these years just as it came from the factory.

Thinking about it now, I wonder why I never looked for another Alvarez. I guess I thought this one was just special.

To paraphrase and slightly change a quote from actor Sam Elliott, playing General Buford in the Gettysburg movie, "fine guitars"

He was actually talking about the "fine ground" he chose to fight on, since he was the first Union general on the scene. And of course he repeated it for emphasis because only Sam Elliott can say it like that. And General Buford was right about the ground. And his scouting cavalry troopers were equipped with repeating carbines and gave a good account of themselves.

But Alvarez really are Fine Guitars.

Don

Newb who has been a member since 2008?

There are a few members here who are very knowledgeable in Alvarez guitars. They are my main choice for acoustics. I've owned a couple dozen or so in total.

Default Artist elite

I bought an Alvarez artist elite off reverb, cedar top ebony b/s The reviews were positive and I got it for a very good price. I am delighted. It has a superb tone and flawless finish. I've played some very high end guitars and how Alvarez do this for the price I've no idea.

I have owned 3 Alvarez guitars over the years - 2 artist series and 1 masterworks series. I have had nothing but good experiences with the guitars. They take a while to get back to you if you contact them directly but they were helpful in answering my questions. I think they make good guitars.
Best,
Jayne

I can only comment on my 2014 Alvarez ABT-60 baritone - it plays fine but quality wise my older 2012 Epiphone EJ-200 and new 2021 Epiphone IBG Hummingbird are both much better finished guitars.

They make a Masterworks cutaway OM that tempts me every time I see one.

Perhaps I should put one of those on "The List".

The Yairis also intrigue me.

guitar center employee told me to try a honduran mahogany made in japan yairi dreadnought and it was just a stunner. Really amazing. JP Cormier also a big fan and having played one, I can see why.
I too eyed the Alvarez OM (MF60). Played one and enjoyed it, though was loud in there. Nice bass, nice sustain. A bit taylor leaning perhaps? Not that its a bad thing. Would love to play it with medium strings. great value for the money.
