Oops! Wife's gonna shoot me! NGD: Guild M75
I can't edit the title. Editing this to say this is an Aristocrat, not the M75 Aristocrat. These have heavily chambered bodies, not fully hollow. Still, very lightweight!
I just sort of stopped by the Guitar Center in Shreveport today. I was passing through and thought "why not!" Well, appareny THIS is why not! They had a used Guild Aristocrat in burst on the rack. Brand new condition and plastic still on the pickguard, etc. It apparently was a Sweetwater buy since it had the Sweetwater card in the case. This guitar sounds so much more lively and resonant than my LPs. I'm going to have to really consider whether I want to hang on to one of my LPs. Also, it has P90s!!!!!! 20210930_180720.jpg20210930_180708.jpg

I had one of those with the goldfoil pickups. I'm betting if mine had had the P90s I might still have it! I think you'll enjoy that beauty.

Always liked those but never got to try one out. How's the neck?

The neck is nice! Not too chunky, and very fast.

Gee that looks nice. I passed on a "real" one once when I visited Chicago Music Exchange years ago, still think about it. That one was real light.

Todd, wow, so many NGD threads this year. I like it!
Congrats on the Aristocrat. It's a stunning guitar. I'm not familiar with it so I just checked it out online. Sweet guitar! Do you know what Les Paul you'd let go if you decided to? |

At this time it would be the 59. It's a great guitar but I have my 60s set up with Phat Cat pickups and a Bigsby and it's really a great LP!

Probably pretty close in tone/feel to the weight-relieved goldtop P-90 LP's Dru and I both own - which is to say quite good and, if you're a guitar-cable-amp kinda guy who relies on nuances of touch to work his sonic mojo, IME far more stylistically versatile than its humbucker counterpart. FWIW it's also a completely different animal than the Newark St. M-75 which, in spite of its compact dimensions, feels/sounds/handles like the full hollowbody guitar it is - lighter on the strap (I've seen some examples scaling in at just over five pounds - acoustic guitar territory) with the more archtop-like response you'd expect from a mini-jazzbox with strong New York Epiphone DNA; IME the Aristocrat/M-75 is an excellent choice as a "rock" guitar for a Gretsch owner, when you want the twang and chime but on-stage levels border on feedback (and not the "good" kind) - use it well, often, and LOUD...

it's going to have more snap then a Les Paul (assuming the Les Paul has Humbuckers?) w/those p90s.
P90s are great pickups, if you don't mind the hum, they can do stuff no others do.
