NGD Wildwood Guitars PRS 35th Anniversary S2 McCarty 594
I bought my first electric in a long time (PRS S2 McCarty 594 Thinline) during last year's lockdown, about 1.5 years ago. I ended up switching entirely to electric guitar; duo gigs, single gigs, personal practice, etc. Into a Bluetooth speaker and a Mustang Micro it is more portable and louder than any acoustic. My acoustic technique translates to electric, but the opposite is a struggle.
I eBay'ed my collection of RainSongs which were more chosen for durability than a great connection to the soul. Down to one guitar I felt I wanted a backup and after building and selling a few partscaster Mustangs I thought a prettier backup would be more to my perfectionist OCD liking. These custom PRS S2's for Wildwood have a few differences; more figured tops and ebony fingerboards. My 594 Thinline weighs 6.1 lbs. and this fancier one is still reasonably light at 7.4 lbs. It has a vintage carve neck which is more of a handful than the Thinline's thin carve. Both guitars play and sound great. It is lovely. Wildwood Guitars was easy to deal with on the phone and seems to have a better inventory than Sweetwater, for one example. The guitar was shipped single boxed in a Wildwood Guitars box that is quite sturdy and much tougher than the Uline guitar boxes I've got on hand. It was exceptionally well packed. It looks better in-person than their website photos. Imgbox photo hosting seems to have recovered from a couple of days of poor performance. Fantastic! Jon, what a great pair of PRSi. I just checked out your new guitar on the Wildwood site - looks like a great guitar. Hard to believe that it's a backup
Hopefully you'll pull it out for a least a song or two at a gig just to test run it? |

Probably... The Thinline has quite viscous Dunlop Ultra Pots and Gibson ES style metal pointers, which I sort of need for my no pedals all distortion from the amp shtick. But I plan not to goober up this new one :~). It is really hard to wire inside a control cavity and get it as clean as I like it. Maybe some of the Japanese inlay sticker dots for the two volume knobs will do the trick and still not violate my keep it clean plan.

One other thing I've noticed is the tummy cut on the new one is much less pronounced. I imagine that is to allow the back cover plate on the toggle switch to be seated to a flat surface.
