Unsubscribing from unwanted emails
I'm guessing many of you are also inundated on a daily basis with loads of unwanted emails. I dutifully click the "unsubscribe" link, or insert my actual email address before clicking the unsubscribe button for those that require it, which always makes me think I am probably just solidifying the connection by doing so.
What do you all do? As with the "Do Not Call" registry which never really fully eliminated robo calls, I suspect my efforts to unsubscribe are probably mostly ion not totally in vain as well. Any great words of wisdom or practical suggestions? |

Create a secondary email address that you use when you are asked for an address for things you may or may not want to deal with.
You may want to establish a new primary address. Use it for friends and family, true business accounts, your bank- anybody you want or need to hear from. Use it only for A listers. You may get some junk, but probably far less than you have been getting. Unsubscribing... Yeah, maybe. |

Most unsubscribing works, although not all of it does. Using a second e-mail address is a good idea.

I don't unsubscribe because it only confirms your address as active, and never seems to work anyway. I do have a dummy account that gets used for any suspect web sites. That one gets plenty of spam....
As for robo calls I've gotten to the point of not answering unless it is a number already in my contact list. Legit calls leave messages, spammers don't. |

I constantly get emails from Hi-Tech News, Lovely Food Blog, and WeeklyGetaways that all look similar, and I assume they’re phishing emails. So I don’t click on anything in them, including the unsubscribe.

I do unsubscribe and find that it pretty much works. Usually what I get are emails from businesses I've used. I used to do the second email thing, but now I don't bother, I just unsubscribe at the first email I get.

I stopped my long lasting subscription t acoustic guitar magazine some time ago but I still get emails from them.
Every so often I go through my enormous inbox and mass delete them by batch.

The "Robocalls" thing doesn't work and neither does call blocking. Their computers just auto dial using another number.
As far as emails go, you can only filter to a certain level. Most of the time "unsubscribing" has been effective for me.

Unsubscribing does work from legitimate sites, the illegitimate ones are just like the robocalls, nothing can stop them once they have you as a 'real' person/address.
Like others, I don't answer the phone (landline or cell) if I don't know the number. Real callers will leave a message.
