Default No phones at the Masters

The spectators are actually watching the event with their eyes, and they don't look ridiculous. Thank you Augusta National.
Some will call it a step backward, I think it is a leap forward.

I'm not sure I understand what the reasoning is here, but hey, it's their show.

It seems perfectly appropriate to me. Even a comedy club I frequent with friends locks up your phone. You turn it off, place it into a locked bag and they return the bag to you. You get it unlocked after the shows.

Don't mess with those old men down in Georgia! They run their golf course the way they want and they have the best course/club/tournament in the known world------keep up the good work guys!

No question - and when you pay 2 grand for a daily ticket, you'd think you'd WANT to pay attention!!

I agree with 'em on this rule, and they do put on a heck of a show. Historically their record on club rules has left a lot to be desired. I'll give them a nod for this one, but they've got a long way to go before I'll venture into praising them for anything.

Yes, I thought about their enforcing this common sense behavior in the context of their history that repeated inappropriate behavior.

I'm glad to know who won because I'm old enough to remember the restricted signs at golf courses and my grandfather explaining that it applied to us.

You know, it used to be (don't know if this is still the policy) that one could not SELL a badge... if you got caught doing it, you'd not get another for the following year. You could definitely not gouge the price of a badge... and those guys know who has 'em and how many...

Leastways, this is how it was in '99 when I got to go. I offered to pay the woman in Augusta for my badge and she categorically refused, saying that the reason she gets them is so her kids and their friends can go to the tournament!

Apparently, back in the day, the Invitational was not a "quick sell", and a lot of the local Augusta townfolk and business folk did a lot for the tournament to get the word around and sell tickets... when the Invitational finally took off, the membership remembered those people who helped the by sending them badges every year since!

The woman who let me have mine for a few days had been receiving 4 each year since her husband passed; prior to that, the family got 8 badges each year. When her husband was dying, he told his wife not to tell the National that he'd died so they'd continue to send the badges!

The next year, the widow got a note from the National tournament committee saying they'd noticed that her husband had passed... and they included 4 badges with the letter.

I love that you can't even RUN at the tournament! Try it and you'll get a mess of those Pinkerton Security guys all over you... and the worst thing is to be asked for your badge...

I have never seen a large scale event that was so wonderfully produced, so smoothly run, with everything VERY reasonably priced (food and souvenirs).

Attending the Invitational is one of the sweetest moments in my golfing life...
