I wouldn’t call it bright, really.
I think of Taylor’s signature sound when I think bright, or maple.

It’s Gibson heritage definitely shows through. I’d call it a nicely rounded, balanced tone. Works well for strumming/singing.

My preference is for strings that are well past the new/zingy stage, which definitely affects sound. Phosphor bronze mediums on mine.

It definitely sounds like a Gibson, but walnut gives it a brighter tone than, say, mahogany

'Skarsaune' and 'Guitarplayer', thanks for your assessment of the J-15 tone.

Another vote for the Gibson J-15...

Though it pains me to ever recommend T*ylor, I would suggest seeking out an earlier (1998-2000?) W10. Aesthetic and tone were spot on. Avoid the later ones with grafted wood.

Saw Youtube video of one; sounds great, but I can't find one listed anywhere. It's a fine looking guitar, too.

Default Walnut/Spruce

The Taylor Cujo dreadnought was made from the walnut tree that was in the Stephen King movie, as well as another movie “Peggy Sue Got Married”.
Very nice figuring on the walnut from this tree!

There are two Gibson Spruce Walnuts that are great:

1) The J-45 Studio Walnut, plays and sounds awesome
2) Gibson Humming Bird Studio.

J-45 is slope shouldered and the Humming Bird is Traditional Dread. Trust me you can't go wrong with a Gibson. I own the J-45 and is amazing.

I have played the Humming Bird and is next this year on my things to buy.
