US$20.000 ... wow, that's about $8 million Australian dollars at the moment.

I see no one has admitted to $20K yet. I've spend far more than that - but it was divided up among a number of good guitars.

I am wondering then who buys these if no one admits to it?

Talking to a dealer of high end guitars, he notes that the economic downturn has not impacted guitars $15K and up. That continues to heat up.
This makes sense in light of how economic classes are developing. Middle class is being squeezed and the more moneyed are actually increasingly doing better. Though a middle class family can ostensibly spend $20K for a guitar if they really pushed for it, but few would. |

I'm sorry, but spending $8,000 on a guitar is not "very conservative."

You are right! I didn't realize how that sounded yet it seems more and more common to see guitars in that price range where as it is still not common to see 20K plus guitars other than vintage

$3500 is the most I’ve spent. I’m in-line for a Pre-War 00 or 000 that will come in between $4500 and $5000, depending on details. If I like it enough to keep it, that’ll be my new max and I seriously doubt I’d ever spend more. If I don’t, I’ll sell it for what I paid and will then likely go to my grave with my current $3500 max.

No.. I think the most expensive guitar I've owned was maybe $1500~.. I think that was a Gibson SG.. can't quite remember.
The most expensive acoustic guitar I've owned is a Cort A8, but I didn't buy it new.. The most I've actually spent myself on an acoustic is probably $1100~.. which was for a Yamaha CSF-TA.. this is all Australian dollars btw.. Loved that guitar and want to get another one, when I can. They've come down in price now too.. you can get one for like $950aud~.. I'd guess $600aud for a used one, which is an absolute steal for how awesome it was. Wasn't a fan of the 2xAA batteries but, whatever. |

Dear burglars and other bad guys/gals of all persuasions: I have never bought a $20,000 guitar. And if I did? I’d never broadcast it on social media. Please believe me so I can sleep tight tonight.

20 large is a bit above my breathable atmosphere. And I don't have any supplemental oxygen, unless I win the next mega-millions.
Most have been in the threes, nothing over five. Advantage goes to the buy and hold philosophy.

Wow, $20k is a lot of cash for a guitar - even if you can afford it. I don’t begrudge anyone having what they want, but I’d have to be a virtuoso before springing for a guitar like that. I’ve seen too many guys pick up a $500 guitar and sound incredible to think that an exquisite instrument would allow me to play like that. To me it’d be like buying a Lamborghini that goes 180 mph when the speed limit is only 65.
Edited to say that I have a couple of guitars in the 2500 range that are my most expensive. |

You are. You made a deal with them, and then immediately showed back up and tried to unwind part of the deal that was beneficial to them (selling your trade-in for profit, rather than back to you at cost). I'm surprised they didn't politely decline the transaction altogether rather than just tacking on an extra $250.

I bought a Gibson Advanced Jumbo 15-20 years ago, IIRC it cost between $1800.00 and $2000.00 USD. Still seems like too much money for a guitar.

Challenging to own a Ryan for less than $10k but somehow I managed by selling a few other guitars first.
I understand that the people who own the $20k plus Ryans don’t frequent these forums, they have people who do that for them - - -
