have you paid more than $20,000 for a guitar?
So I am very conservative and usually have had a limit of not spending more than $8000 for a guitar which for me is still a lot of money. Yet recently have tried some guitars that were > $20,000 and they sound amazing.
What's the most you have ever paid for a guitar? |

I’ve always been able to get excellent prices from luthiers, and so $3500 is the most I’ve ever had to spend.

I have not. If I had that kind of money, I'd probably be looking at the vintage market.

Do I count the building and all the tools I own that I use to make my guitars?
Then yes... The most I've paid for a commercially produced guitar? $1500, but I doubled my money when I sold it twenty years later. |

Getting ready to plunk down $10,000. Most I've ever paid

I'm with Wade; $3,500 is the sweet spot at my current guitar to talent ratio. As it is, I'm over guitared and under talented. I can't justify spending any more at my current skill level. Maybe some day...

$6k (used), for a $10k guitar (Froggy Bottom) I'd be surprised if I ever pay more than that. Actually, I doubt I'll ever pay that much again unless I run into a Froggy Bottom I can't resist. I'd love to play something that high end ($20k plus) just to see if it lives up to the hype/cost. Greenfields always appealed to me. |

Low 6s IIRC, for a used/mint Goodall Brazilian TROM.
I probably would not go above 8k unless it was a vintage piece.

I haven't had the pleasure of playing something that expensive that wasn't a vintage guitar. Were they $20K worth of amazing?

For a single guitar, no. But the 3 acoustics in my stable are close to that . The 1937 D28 AA was the most I’ve spent on a single guitar, followed by the Collings.

No. I have a roomful of guitars and assorted instruments for recording but wouldn't invest that kind of money in a guitar. I will accept one from a sponsor, though. If I can't make a thousand dollar list guitar sound amazing, then it is not an amazing guitar.

My most expensive was about $3500. I doubt I'd spend much more than that.
