I didn't even know they came in black - awesome. Quote:
It's not a smoke ring, that's the reflection of my light/fan! Quote:
The Elixirs had me a little worried for a bit - the G string would not hold it's tune for the first few hours, no matter what I did. Everything else took to being restrung very well. But, the next day, G string is fine. Just needed more time. The plugged in sound is nothing special - in fact, it's actually kinda bad! I really don't like the piezo sound and this guitar only has a passive piezo pickup! I will most likely get an acoustic preamp at some point - or I'll replace the pickup. Or both, not sure yet. But the plugged in sound leaves a lot to be desired - here's a completely unedited clip of it's unplugged sound.. Fingers at first, then I use a pick from 13 seconds onwards. https://voca.ro/1cxnLyWk4kqy That doesn't hold a candle to how great it sounds unplugged live in the room, or how it sounds recorded with a mic. Not even close. That is of course, plugged straight into my interface - no preamp. I think getting any sort of acoustic preamp would help it immensely, but at the end of the day it IS still just a passive piezo undersaddle pickup - it's never going to actually sound like the guitar. Turi, belated welcome to the AGF!
I bought my LL16 back in Nov and you are right, it's a great guitar. It comes stock with 80/20 strings but I still need to try some PBs just to see what the difference is. Congrats and Enjoy! |

Cheers mate. The one I got didn't come with stock strings - it was used, had some Ernie Ball strings on it that weren't very nice at all. Probably kinda old, but either way they had to go. I'm a Nanoweb Elixir man myself, just love 'em. A couple days in since getting it and restringing it and I'm still over the moon with it - it just sounds and feels so good. Genuinely inspires me to play. First guitar I've owned - and I've owned a lot - that actually makes me smile when I look at it, which is crazy. |

Awesome thread - I am a huge Yamaha fan and feel the same about my LL16.
You are likely a much better player than I, but my favorite strings on that guitar are Curt Mangan Phosphor Bronze traditional lights or the always reliable D'Addario EJ-16's. Just an awesome sounding, easy playing, well-built instrument. Cheers,

Agreed, this is a beautiful guitar and I bet it sounds great! There's one on the wall of one of the local shops around here. I might just have to stop in and try it out.
