Default Sub-$200 recording software for PC?

I asked an Admin. to delete a post and I think that he/she deleted the thread!

Anyway, the question is pretty simple: What's a good sub-$200 recording program for PC?

A lot of folks love Reaper. I think they have a free version that you eventually pay for if you like it. About $40. I've heard some nice recordings on the Home Recording Forum that were recorded with Reaper. Seems to work with a large number of interfaces.

Also, Cakewalk has some inexpensive alternatives.

Good luck!

Yup, I checked out Reaper yesterday. It's amazing what $40 will get someone these days. I may go with this when the time comes.

I've spent $40 on worse things, that's for sure...

Audacity. It's way under $200... it's free (and downloadable). Google it up.

Because of a shortage of cash I'm still on the evaluation version of REAPER and loving the software. I will buy it eventually though. I do have to admit I'm using it with my Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 FireWire interface. REAPER gets along with it really well.
IOW, I second REAPER!

Kristal is for free, if you only need 16 channels. ( Limitations can be really good for creativity.)

If you want a feature-rich, fully functional, professional-level software on the cheap, Reaper is pretty much the best option out there. As others have pointed out, Audacity is free, but nowhere nearly as useful as Reaper.
