Default Careless whisper

So this is all that "tappy"guitar playing stuff with the addition of machine head tweaks...I think the young man does an excellent job, very impressive playing.

Definitely impressive, but not my cuppa tea. Excessively colourful and fanciful. I get sick of compositions like these.

I will stick with Kelly.

It's also surprisingly not to terribly difficult to play. Kelly's tabs are fantastic!

There's a lot of talent going on there in the performance and I'm a bit mesmerized by the playing, but if my eyes were closed and say if I heard this on a elevator or in a restaurant (pick any environment where you're eyes aren't able to see the performer) it doesn't really stand out on its own. It's just pleasant background/mood music.

I'm not saying everyone should feel the same way I do, but If mustering an emotional response for the piece requires I watch it being performed to gain appreciation of the effort, that means the novelty is all in the performance itself... I like for the music to be the product, not the performers acrobatics. If an artist can do both (Tommy Emmanuel) then great, but the music itself must always sell it to me.

I've been following Alexandr since he was just a kid with a bowl cut playing in his room. He's one of the best. He was the first one I've seen to let his finger lay next to the low E so it makes this buzzing 'dubstep' sound. He has another tune where he hammers strictly with the right hand while making beat on the table with his left. This one's my favorite... it's ethereal and otherworldly:

As far as I know, John Gomm is the originator of the "tappy fingerstyle stuff with the addition of tuning machine tweaks" style

I think its good, well played. I'm not a big fan of tapping just to tap either as is the case with many percussive tunes. It's a definite skill though which shouldn't be scoffed at.

I put percussive playing in the same category as cascading harmonics. Nice if you can do it, not an essential skill, but good skills to have in your tool box if you don't mind putting in the time and effort.

Well said. I enjoy watching him play the instrument. He sounds great, and the music is lovely. I would not, however, put on a CD of this music and listen to it intently through my headphones. The music would fade into the background, and my mind would wander far away...

Not that that is a bad thing...
