Default Figuring out the changes of a tune by ear - assistance needed.

I found chords for a Stringdusters tune and they seem wrong (surprise!)

Here's a screencap of the chart -

And here's the tune for reference -

The D at the end of the first line (verse 1) seems as if it should be an E...

Also the Ds on the 3rd line (verse 1) both sound like they should be E

Lastly, shouldn't all those G minors be ...majors?

Thanks,

Oof, this chart's a mess. Just about the only thing they got right was that the song's in E.

If you want to try figuring it out on your own, listen to what the bass is doing (hard to do through laptop speakers, BTW). The bass is hitting the root note of the chord (the chord the name's after) on the 1st and 3rd beats of every measure.

You'll hear that the verse is mostly just E and A chords. They're not changing nearly as quickly as what's shown in the chart--it's E the end of the first line, then changes to A on the word "me". Then it stays on A until the end of the second line, changing back to E on "see".

Hope this gets you started.

The first line is definitely wrong. I'm not sure of the G chord but the D should be on the word 'follow' and on 'me' there should be an A.

In this version

http://uk.video.search.yahoo.com/vid...spart=ddc&tt=b

you can just make out that the guitarist is capoed at the second fret and plays D for E, C for D and G for A,

Oops, Stanron's right. The guitarist's throwing lots of transitional chords in there. Hard to hear in the recording. That video's a good resource.

That's what I get for trying to give quick advice.

you can't stop the changes, but you can get a lot of them wrong.

Thanks, folks. I'll work on it a bit and give you an update. mc, I'm glad someone grabbed that "low-hanging fruit" of a pun.

I've just had a go at it. The chords given are way off, but that snakey style has a descending bass at the end of the verse that uses G, D/F#, E. - The F# bass in the D chord is important.

If you play pentatonic minor scales, these tunes are a lot of fun. - this with Em pent.
