Default Justify a $45,000 guitar

http://www.martinguitar.com/guitars/...20Koa%20Deluxe

The Martin D-50 Koa Deluxe has a list price over most luxury cars at 45,000 USD.

Could you imagine a guitar that was really worth that?

No, and it doesn't look like many dealers do either. That's pretty much a collector-only item really. I doubt anyone would ever acutaly play this guitar. Plus its just god-awful ugly.

Some guitars are worth that kind of money (e.g. pre-war Martin), or at least the market says so; just not the "Koa Deluxe".

Hell, I don't think I could wrap my head around the idea of a $5,000.00 guitar, either. Personally, I just don't see where any guitar is worth that much, let alone $45,000.00...

are you certain that there wasn't a typo on that page? I mean, I can see someone charging that much for a guitar, but compared to the other guitars on the page it seems like there might have been one extra zero added which makes it completely unreasonable.

Maybe?

Oh, and heck no I would never purchase that... even if it was 4500 dollars. Too much inlay for me. I used to think more was better, but now days I feel like the two most beautiful inlay's (On taylor guitars) are the Cindy inlay (Not too much, not too little) or no inlay at all. There is something so defined about a all black fretboard.

That's not realy that much money, if you price it against a 1959 Les Paul..... which will run about $140,000.00 for one in good shape. Kind of like having another house payment!

Personally I don't see any difference in a 45,000 guitar and some of the many violins owned by 'investment brokers'' that go in the millions. Southerbys auctioned a special chello once for about that amount. More to the point . How good of a player do you have to be to HEAR the difference in a million dollar violin? Much less a 45000 Martin. But then I wouldn't want a Maybach at a quarter million either. They actually depreciate. LOL

While I could/would never consider a $45,000 guitar, it doesn't bother me at all that someone else might. I have two fine Taylor guitars. To much of the human population on this planet, that would be a rediculous extravagance.

Of course, their priorities are more basic than mine, like finding enough food to sustain life a few more days, dealing with the problems of poor drinking water, lack of medical care, etc. To people like this, having any guitar would be a senseless waste. Their reaction to my 914c and 612c Cotten would be much the same as mine is to a $140,000 Les Paul.

If someone wants to pay that much for a guitar, and is able to do so without ripping off someone else, more power to 'em!

I can see paying 5 figures for a Martin, but not one made in the last 50 years.

Although a guitar this ornate does not appeal to me, if I was filthy, stinkin' rich and found a guitar that I wanted, I wouldn't care how much it cost. It's all relative. My wife thinks I'm insane to spend what I do for the guitars I have and I can afford it.

I think im with Jeffrey on this one

That is one very ugly guitar right there. If I had it, I dont think that I could stand to look at it very long.

funny , Im a bona fide car nut and for some reason have never wanted a Ferrari since the Daytona went out of productioin. The feller that sells me Taylors had a couple of them and I finally got to drive them and they are very much overated. Even he now as a Z 06 and laughs at the thought of another Ferrari. Well I could not afford one either way but the z 06 would me my poison and the latest Guild (Benedetto) Jazz box would bet me stoked even though I would not play if much more than I do my 12 string but it sure would be nice to zap out a little "Wave" on once in a while all the while admiring the workmanship and beautiful wood.
