Default Mother Love (Martin Simpson)

My New Year's resolution here on the AGF is to start posting in Show and Tell so here is a lovely tune I was inspired to play after it was posted here by AGF'er Wrighty a few months ago.

The original composer is Martin Simpson and in my performance, I play it about 75% of Martin's performance tempo but I think it sounds pretty nice at that pace.

Guitar is my new Doerr Trinity 00 built with maple back and sides and a Lutz spruce top. Strings are Thomastik Infeld Plectrums. Recorded with two KM184's set up in a spaced pair into a Zoom H5. Post processing was some mild reverb and compression and a high pass filte at 80 hz.

Thanks for taking a listen and your constructive critiques are very welcome.

Lovely, Bob!! Nice full sound from the Doerr....really enjoyed this Simpson tune which I must have missed when Wrighty first brought it to AGF.
Congrats once again on the Doerr, I see it's in nice company!!
Best,
Fred
ps. the tune in my signature "Travelin' Steps" is on a Doerr Legacy

I've got three more I hope to post in the next 1-2 weeks. Thanks for the encouragement and compliments.

I chuckle when I look at your YT channel. There are a lot of songs you have posted here and there that I learned but never got ready for "prime time". I want to change that for 2021.

Happy New Year mate!

Thanks Barry.

My early attempts at recording were using a pair of Shure KSM137’s and I always had a tiny amount of background low hiss. I bit the bullet last year buying the KM184’s last year thinking they would be forever mics and I’m very pleased that low hiss I heard with the Shure mics seems to be gone. I’m going to do some more A/B’ing of the mics but it seems for me, the step up in the mics made a big difference and hopefully I consistently end up with a recording that requires minimal to no post processing.
